Found June 20, 2013 on Suicide Squeeze:
Just to touch briefly on it… Chris Capuano pitched six shutout innings in his return from the disabled list.  Hanley Ramirez and Andre Ethier continued their hot hitting. The Dodgers put two runs on the board before the seats were even re-warmed for the second game of their double header with the Yankees at Yankee Stadium. Oh, and Yasiel Puig hit another home run.  This was probably the most meaningless of Puig’s five homers so far in his major league career, a solo shot capping off a 6-0 Dodger victory in the Bronx.  But the blast happened at Yankee Stadium at the end of a two game marathon day in which Puig twice attempted to stretch singles into doubles (once successfully, once unsuccessfully,) attempted to throw a runner out at first base from right field to take away a single, had his first embarrassing moment against a dominant closer (Mariano Rivera striking him out to end the first game,) and went 4-for-9 on the day.  Puig comes out of the day-night double header hitting .474, giving Yankee fans quite the taste of what all the excitement is about in Los Angeles. Hanley Ramirez also hit well, going 4-for-4 with a homer in the first game of the double header before going 2-for-4 in the nightcap with two more RBIs.  Ramirez is now hitting .359 in limited time for the Dodgers this year. Capuano improved to 2-4 on the season with a 4.62 ERA.  Phil Hughes picks up the loss for the Yankees, falling to 3-6.  His ERA sits at 5.09.The Dodgers now head to San Diego where they’ll take on the Padres in a four game series starting tonight before returning to Dodger Stadium next week. A Yasiel Puig All-Star nod is inevitable

There has been a lot of rabble going into the All-Star Game next month about Dodgers rookie phenom Yasiel Puig potentially getting named to the team after just 15 games. Bruce Bochy of the Giants, manager of this year's NL squad, said he'd be hard-pressed to add Puig to the roster. And honestly, I can see both sides of the argument on this one. Puig has been sensational...

Mike Trout and Yasiel Puig: A Hustle Double Comparison

The most exciting play in baseball, within context, is presumably the walk-off grand slam with two outs and a three-run deficit. Within context, I imagine it’s almost a perfect correlation between play excitement and Win Probability Added. This is why WPA works as both a baseball statistic and emotion statistic. Any immediate reversal of deficit to victory is going to be outstanding...

Bruce Bochy: Yasiel Puig on NL All-Star team is a ‘long shot’

Yasiel Puig has been so impressive in his limited time in the bigs, there have been calls from some people to put the phenom in the All-Star Game. San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy, who will manage the NL All-Star squad, says Puig making the All-Star team is a “long shot.” Puig is not on [...]

Yasiel Puig and Recent Rookie Sensations

Yasiel Puig has been crushing the ball since being called up. (Photo credit) The Los Angeles Dodgers are the Cerberus of the sports world. A three-headed monster with the wallet of a Steinbrenner, the media draw of LeBron James, and the propensity to fail of every talented-but-evil team in the final minutes of a sports movie. What could possibly go wrong? Don’t ask fans in L...

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Newcomer Pedro Ciriaco tripled in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning and hit a two-run homer in the eighth to lead the San Diego Padres to a 6-3 victory against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday night. The Padres, who had three terrific defensive plays, won for the eighth time in 10 games and popped above .500 for the second time this season. Dodgers...

Los Angeles Dodgers Drop Opener, Yasiel Puig Homers Again

Pedro Ciriaco provided a pair of big hits late in Thursday night’s game helping the San Diego Padres to a 6-3 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The loss drops the Dodgers to 8.5 games behind division leading Arizona Diamondbacks including six games behind the Padres who moved into sole possession of third in the NL West. Ciriaco has had a nice start for the Padres after being...

Yankees: Hughes saw the Puig show

I was supposed to see Hiroki Kuroda pitch last night vs. the LA Dodgers, but thanks to Mother Nature I had to endure another Phil Hughes catastrophe. Dodgers Yasiel Puig – 06-20-2013 – Yankee Stadium After Tuesday night’s game got bumped making Wednesday a doubleheader, the older of the two starting pitchers traditionally picks the game he wants to start in. Kuroda picked the...

Daily FanDuel Picks: June 21, 2013

Yesterday, Welington Castillo, Matt Holliday, and Yasiel Puig all homered, but it wasn’t enough for “hectorrondon” as Mike Minor was good for just eight points and no other batter scored more than 1.25.Today it’s back to the real aces in a late-game entry. Will that make a difference? It should.Just a few bits of housekeeping before we go any further:Sorry for the site being...

Video: Padres host zombie night at stadium

Your browser does not support iframes. The only way to describe the atmosphere at Petco Park Thursday night during the Dodgers-Padres game was that it was extremely dead. This is because the Padres played host to "Zombie Night" at the stadium as hundreds, if not thousands of fans, dressed up as living dead for the occasion. And it wasn't to shoot a remake of Michael Jackson...

What Does the Emergence of Yasiel Puig Mean for Andre Ethier’s Dodger Future?

Dodgers’ manager Don Mattingly insists that there are “enough at-bats to go around,” and also that a demotion for Yasiel Puig is “not going to happen.” Assuming the latter is true, and it most certainly should be considering the start to Puig’s career, the question becomes, how exactly does Mattingly intend to spread around enough at-bats for the likes of Matt Kemp, Carl...
