San Diego Padres catcher Yorvit Torrealba has been missing for a few days and the team has not been talking. The Padres placed the 31-year-old catcher on the restricted for “personal reasons” and he will rejoin the club in Philadelphia on Thursday.
The San Diego Union-Tribune says that it is almost exactly one year since Torrealba took a leave from his former team, the Colorado Rockies, to tend to the kidnapping of his 11-year-old son and two of the boy’s uncles. The family was soon released and no ransom was paid. The catcher immediately moved his family to the Miami area.
“Yorvit will be away three days,” Padres manager Bud Black said. “He will meet us in Philadelphia.”
Dusty Ryan was promoted from Triple-A Portland to take Torrealba’s spot on the Padres roster.
