The last days of Kevin Youkilis in a Boston Red Sox uniform may be approaching.
Trade dialogue surrounding the beleaguered Boston third baseman has intensified in the last 24 to 48 hours, major-league sources told FOXSports.com. The Red Sox have made clear that (a) Youkilis is available and (b) they are willing to include cash to facilitate a better player return. In response, a number of clubs have indicated that they have interest in acquiring the three-time All-Star.
"He's being shopped everywhere," said one high-ranking official with a National League club.
No deal is imminent, but Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington is getting a clearer idea of how other teams value Youkilis, who has been limited by a low back strain to only 39 games this season while posting the worst offensive numbers of his career (.215/.301/.341).
The Arizona Diamondbacks, Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Indians and Pittsburgh Pirates are among the teams with varying levels of interest in acquiring Youkilis, sources say.
The Cincinnati Reds - Youkilis' hometown team - aren't seen as a strong suitor for him. The Reds are in first place, veteran third baseman Scott Rolen came off the disabled list Monday, and the team has been impressed with the recent production of 26-year-old Todd Frazier at third.
Youkilis has more than $7 million left on his contract this year, along with a $1 million buyout on next year's $13 million club option. The more of his salary the Red Sox are willing to pay, the more likely it becomes that the lower-revenue Indians and Pirates will have a legitimate chance to land Youkilis.
Some of the interested clubs are expected to dispatch scouts to Boston's series against the Miami Marlins this week at Fenway Park. As with most potential trade deadline acquisitions, Youkilis' health and performance right now is of the utmost importance. He batted .048 (1-for-21) over his past seven games, leaving doubt about his ability to contribute in the near term.
Youkilis, 33, is viewed by many evaluators as a player in decline, but he has value as a right-handed-hitting corner infielder with a grinder's ethic and extensive postseason experience. Also, some people in the industry believe Youkilis could be rejuvenated by a change of scenery. He doesn't have a good relationship with manager Bobby Valentine - dating back to Valentine's public criticism of him in April - and Youkilis has been bothered by the incessant trade rumors, which are quite possibly affecting his play.

BOSTON -- Carl Crawford knows he has been a non factor for the Red Sox so far this season. But the All-Star left fielder is determined to change that reality. Crawford took about 50 swings during batting practice on Tuesday, impressing with his bat speed and solid stroke. The 30-year-old blasted a few pitches off the Green Monster in left field and even sent one into the deepest...
Things were problematic enough for the Boston Red Sox with injuries this season, and now they may have to worry about Dustin Pedroia again. The second baseman re-injured his right thumb Tuesday for the second time in three weeks and was taken out of the game after his at-bat in the seventh inning. Pedroia was not available to talk with the media after Boston's 7-5 win over...
With all the Red Sox talk about who's not on the field -- namely, the team's entire projected starting outfield -- it's gone a little bit unnoticed that the guys who are filling out the lineup card on a daily basis are doing pretty darn well for themselves. Coming in to Tuesday's series opener at Fenway hosting the Miami Marlins, the offense is one thing that Sox...
David Ortiz homered and Ryan Kalish had a tiebreaking RBI single to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 7-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Sunday night.
Kalish, recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket before the game also scored on Daniel Nanva's squeeze bunt to cap Boston's three-run seventh inning that gave the Red Sox a 6-3 lead.

BOSTON -- By electing to battle through the pain, Dustin Pedroia gambled. The second baseman took a chance on playing through a torn adductor muscle in his right thumb, hoping he wouldn't re-aggravate the injury –– or worsen it –– after missing six games. That decision may possibly haunt him. During the seventh inning of Tuesday's 7-5 win over the Marlins, Pedroia...

The Boston Red Sox selected third baseman Xavier Turner in the 34th round out of Sandusky High School in Ohio. We sat down with him for a draft day Q&A session to get his thoughts on being drafted by the Red Sox, to get an idea on his strengths and weaknesses, who he would compare himself to at the big league level, and much more.
It doesn't sound like there will be any sort of long, drawn-out negotiation process for the Red Sox to sign their first-round draft pick. Baseball America reports that the Sox have come to terms with first-round pick Deven Marrero, a slick-fielding shortstop out of Arizona State. According to Baseball America, the deal comes with a $2.05 million bonus for Marrero, who Boston...
