Two of the game’s premier young pitchers are poised to face off against one another tomorrow evening in the first if a three game set at Citi Field. Washington National ace phenom Stephen Strasburg will climb the bump against the New York Mets prized pitching possession Matt Harvey, which is slated to be one of the best match-ups of this young season.
Both hurlers are former 1st round draft picks for their respective teams, Strasburg went 1st overall in the 2009 amateur draft while his counterpart Harvey went 7th overall a year later in 2010. Both pitchers breezed through the minors and have been dominating major league hitters ever since their call-up to the big leagues.
Harvey has arguably been the most dominating pitcher of the season in either league posting a 3-0 record with an invisible 0.82 earned run average in three starts. The 24-year-old has surrendered only two runs in 22 innings pitched while fanning 25 batters for the middle of the pack Metropolitans.
