A young New York Yankees fan was given a foul ball from a nearby fan who caught it, but promptly tossed it away during Sunday's game in the Bronx. Your browser does not support iframes. A man in the second row of the upper deck was nice enough to give the baseball he caught to a young girl sitting in front of him. The young girl thanked him by promptly tossing the ball back towards the lower deck. Fans sitting nearby were surprised, but none more than the girl's parents, not to mention the fan who gave her the ball. Looks like the lesson just isn't getting through to the kids out there: If you go to a major league baseball game and someone gives you a baseball, you keep it. Video via MLB. Potential Milestones: September 2, 2013

Robinson Cano will look to shoot up the Yankees’ all-time home runs list this week. (Photo: Elsa/Getty Images) As the New York Yankees prepare to get another series started, it’s time to take a look once again at which career milestones are in play for some Yankee stars. Second baseman Robinson Cano has 202 career home runs, which leaves him tied with Bill Dickey for 15th place...

Alex Rodriguez a late scratch for Yankees with Flu-Like symptoms

About 45 minutes before today’s Yankees/Orioles matchup began, the Yankees announced that third baseman Alex Rodriguez would be a late scratch for today’s game. The team says that the reason is due to “flu-like symptoms”. Mark Reynolds (who was slated to start at first base) replaced Rodriguez at third, and Lyle Overbay came off the bench to play first. In the original...

With Patchwork Roster, Yankees Make Case They Belong

Let me preface this piece by saying in no way is this a pro-Yankee stance, and that I will never steal buy a Joe Pepitone jersey.  I also promise to never partake in the suite-service of the Legends seats that sit directly behind home plate.  I will never accept free tickets to do this!  It’s terrible that you can eat high-quality shrimp and lobster while watching one of the...

The New York Yankees welcomed second baseman Robinson Cano back into their starting lineup last night as they opened their weekend series against the Baltimore Orioles. While New York saw Cano return from his bruised hand, infielder Eduardo Nunez remained sidelined due to his lingering knee injury, according to Josh Vitale of MLB.com. Cano and Nunez both suffered their...

Preview: Yankees vs White Sox (9/2/13)

Phil Hughes (4-13, 4.91 ERA) and the Yankees look for some redemption after they were on the swept end of a three game sweep against Chicago in August. Jose Quintana (7-4, 3.66 ERA) is on the mound for the White Sox. Hughes had his start pushed back from Sunday after a many MANY rough outings. He was hit for five runs in 4 2/3 innings against the Blue Jays on Aug. 26, and his ERA...

Andy Pettitte (10-9, 4.05 ERA) gets the start in place of Hughes as the Yanks go for the sweep against Wei-Yin Chen (7-7, 3.76 ERA.) Pettitte will look to build on the seven scoreless innings he threw against the Blue Jays on Tuesday. That game marked the first time this season he didn’t allow a run in a start. The last time he faced Baltimore, he threw 6 2/3 innings of four run...

The New York Yankees have already taken two of three games against the Baltimore Orioles, with tomorrow still to play, and are now four games out from owning one the American League wild card spots. Playoff Push: Yanks fall to Orioles, but stay 3.5 games back of Rays

Joba struggles as bullpen blows game. (Photo courtesy of Al Bello/Getty Images) The Yankees’ bullpen came undone on Sunday as the Orioles scored 7 runs in the 7th inning to come from behind from the Yanks and avoid a sweep. However, the Rays got swept by the A’s over the weekend, so the Yankees did not lose any ground in the Wild Card race Sunday and head into today’s Labor...

Yankees' bullpen fails, Orioles win with 7 in 7th

Once Yankees manager Joe Girardi started making walks to the mound, the Baltimore Orioles began running around the bases. In position for a weekend sweep, New York let it slip away Sunday when a normally solid bullpen fell apart. J.J. Hardy and Adam Jones hit three-run homers in a seven-run seventh inning as Baltimore erupted to win 7-3 in a matchup of wild-card contenders. '...

Yankees Game 135: Super Nova shines bright in shutout

(Photo by Rich Schultz/Getty Images) Ivan “Super” Nova was outstanding in today’s 2-0 shutout win over the Baltimore Orioles. Ivan Nova got into early trouble when he hit Adam Jones with a pitch and Matt Wieters hit a bloop single in front of Ichiro Suzuki. Nova would induce a double play and got a fly out to escape the jam. Brett Gardner got the offense started with a double...

White Sox-Yankees Preview

The New York Yankees can't afford to turn in a series against the Chicago White Sox like they did last month if they want to remain in contention for the playoffs. Phil Hughes surprisingly may give them a chance to get off to a good start in this one even though he is winless in nine outings. Hughes owns a lower ERA against the White Sox than versus any other AL foe as the...

Bombers break out in 9-1 rout of White Sox

Scoring runs has been an issue for the Yankees all season. In the fourth inning Monday it felt like they were making up for the past five months in a single frame. The Yankees exploded for eight runs in the inning on their way to a 9-1 win over the White Sox in front of an announced Labor Day crowd of 40125 at soggy Yankee Stadium. Six different Yankees drove in runs during the...
