Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.  Alfredo Aceves threw his first batting practice session since Sunday’s controversial incident, in which he tossed balls lightly into the batters instead of executing the drill as planned. Wednesday’s BP went off without a hitch, with Aceves showing sharp stuff while pitching to Juan Carlos Linares, Pedro Ciriaco and Daniel Nava. After the exercise, the pitcher explained his thoughts on what had transpired a few days before. “It was just miscommunication. That’s all it was,” he said. “I apologized for that and now we’re on track.” Aceves exhibited praise for new Red Sox manager John Farrell, who appeared to have a stern talk with the pitcher following his first crack at BP. “He’s the kind of guy who is tough and you receive that toughness,” Aceves said. “I think it’s good for us.” Aceves, who is scheduled to get the start in Port Charlotte Monday against the Rays, also drew praise from Farrell for his latest performance, with the manager relaying, “He had a very good day today. Focused. Good effort level. Good work day.” WEEI: Incident free BP for Aceves And we can now close the books on the first overblown Spring Training story of 2013. People still have a sour taste in their mouths over Aceves last year and rightfully so as it felt that no lead was safe in the ninth with him. The attitude became an issue and he got suspended but this is nothing new with Aceves. There's a reason the Yankees let him walk so easily even though he was 14-1 with a 3.21 ERA and a 1.063 WHIP in 59 games. They just didn't want to deal with the headache.  What's worse for him is that the team is running out of assholes for people & media to complain about. John Lackey is still number one  but Aceves is right behind him and people are waiting on him to do something else crazy and stupid just so they can scream for him to get cut. It's absurd.   He's back into the multiple inning reliever/spot starter role that he thrives in. Would I expect a similar campaign in 2011 when he went 10-2? No but I'm expecting him to come back and not be the man we saw in 2012. If he does return to form, then his attitude will not be a topic whatsoever. Rest of the Links:Globe:  Varitek training to be an executive| Carping on all things Red Sox| Herald: Mike Napoli powerfully good | CSNNE: Clay on the right track | More worry, but less work, for Napoli | WEEI: Overbay on Carp: "Not that big of a deal" |
