Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
Alfredo Aceves threw his first batting practice session since Sunday’s controversial incident, in which he tossed balls lightly into the batters instead of executing the drill as planned.
Wednesday’s BP went off without a hitch, with Aceves showing sharp stuff while pitching to Juan Carlos Linares, Pedro Ciriaco and Daniel Nava. After the exercise, the pitcher explained his thoughts on what had transpired a few days before.
“It was just miscommunication. That’s all it was,” he said. “I apologized for that and now we’re on track.”
Aceves exhibited praise for new Red Sox manager John Farrell, who appeared to have a stern talk with the pitcher following his first crack at BP.
“He’s the kind of guy who is tough and you receive that toughness,” Aceves said. “I think it’s good for us.”
Aceves, who is scheduled to get the start in Port Charlotte Monday against the Rays, also drew praise from Farrell for his latest performance, with the manager relaying, “He had a very good day today. Focused. Good effort level. Good work day.”
WEEI: Incident free BP for Aceves
And we can now close the books on the first overblown Spring Training story of 2013. People still have a sour taste in their mouths over Aceves last year and rightfully so as it felt that no lead was safe in the ninth with him. The attitude became an issue and he got suspended but this is nothing new with Aceves. There's a reason the Yankees let him walk so easily even though he was 14-1 with a 3.21 ERA and a 1.063 WHIP in 59 games. They just didn't want to deal with the headache.
What's worse for him is that the team is running out of assholes for people & media to complain about. John Lackey is still number one but Aceves is right behind him and people are waiting on him to do something else crazy and stupid just so they can scream for him to get cut. It's absurd.
He's back into the multiple inning reliever/spot starter role that he thrives in. Would I expect a similar campaign in 2011 when he went 10-2? No but I'm expecting him to come back and not be the man we saw in 2012. If he does return to form, then his attitude will not be a topic whatsoever.

The under the radar career of Koji Uehara
One of the unsung deals of this off season was when the Boston Red Sox signed Koji Uehara to a one year deal for $4.25 million. He was rated as the 35th top free agent on MLB Trade Rumors before the off season really got under way. But still, the signing went under the radar. And that is only fitting because Uehara's entire career has been under the radar.
Koji Uehara came...

Gomes, Ross go gator hunting in Florida
Tweet There were four spring training games Friday. The Boston Red Sox weren’t among the eight teams playing, so that gave the guys a chance to enjoy an afternoon in Florida. Outfielder Jonny Gomes and catcher David Ross took the opportunity to head out into the swamps. This might be the best pic [...]
Daniel Bard takes huge first step
It was this time last year when reliever Daniel Bard was finally making the transition that he was dying for; Bard would be a starting pitcher. Unfortunately for him and the Red Sox, the transition flopped.
Bard was 5-6, with a 5.24 ERA, walked 37 batters and hit 8 more; this outweighed his 34 strikeouts. After a 1.2 inning performance against the Blue Jays in which gave up 5 runs...
Red Sox sign Mike Carp, now a log jam at first base
The Boston Red Sox spent yesterday's off day picking up Seattle left handed hitter 1B/OF Mike Carp. Carp had been designated for assignment by the Mariners, but the Red Sox picked him up for a player to be named later. What does this mean in Boston? Well, first of all, first base is a log jam. Mike Napoli, Daniel Nava, Lyle Overbay and Carp all plan on trying out for first base...
Juan Nieves does not lack for optimism
Gordon Edes posted a round-up of quotes from pitching coach Juan Nieves about the five expected starters in the Red Sox rotation. It is...effusive. For example, check out just some of his thoughts on Red Sox whipping boy John Lackey:
"Ohhh, he's awesome. He's in great shape. What I've seen right now, I know John [Farrell] spoke to him, was able to see him [this...
Red Sox - Is the future closer than we think? (with video)
Yesterday, both Jackie Bradley Jr and Xander Bogaerts (pronounced Bo-Garts) got their first starts of the season for the Red Sox in an exhibition game against Boston College. It would be safe to say that both took full advantage of their opportunity. Both players recorded hard hit doubles (See Bogaert's hit in above video) in route to an 11-1 Red Sox victory, and Bradley made...
Joel Hanrahan's a better golfer then closer
Apparently being an All-Star closer isn’t the only thing
Joel Hanrahan can brag about these days. According to NESN.com’s Hanrahan
thinks he’s worthy of being titled “The best golfer on the Red Sox roster” and he’ll
have a chance to prove it at their annual Southwest Florida Children’s Hospital
celebrity golf tournament today. Yet
Hanrahan’s been bragging about his...
Red Sox Spring Training News & Notes - 2/20
To rephrase a famous Bob Marley line, "we be slacking" here on the Boston Red Sox news.
Part of it has to deal with my current health situation. The other part is in the past I've been able to post the NESN interviews and contest they do with the players.
But since the digital media person hasn't gotten back to me yet about the autoplay issue, I haven'...
Buchholz looks and feels good after full BP
Clay Buchholz finally got some practice in again on Wednesday after straining his hamstring on February 12th. New Red Sox manager John Farrell seems to know exactly what to do with the pitcher, having formerly pitched in the Major Leagues and served time as the position coach for the Sox from '07-'10. According to him, Buchholz threw 30 pitches in the live BP, which is...

Joel Hanrahan Confident in His Golf Skills, Thinks Pirates Might Miss His Expertise on the Links
When Joel Hanrahan arrived in Boston, he brought a solid track record, high expectations and apparently a fairly decent golf swing.
