Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Although no official announcement has been made, it appears Jackie Bradley Jr. has in fact made the Opening Day roster. Jackie Bradley Jr. was only supposed to spend a few weeks in spring training with the Red Sox. Now it appears he will be facing the Yankees on Opening Day. The Red Sox informed outfielder Ryan Sweeney Thursday night that they would not be purchasing his contract. That would appear to clear the way for the 22-year-old Bradley to be added to the roster. “Nobody has told me anything,” Bradley said after driving in a run to help the Red Sox beat the Minnesota Twins, 6-1. “I’m just going to show up tomorrow.” The Red Sox had a hole to fill when it became apparent designated hitter David Ortiz would not be ready to start the season as he recovers from an Achilles’ tendon injury. Bradley made himself the best option, hitting .444 with seven extra-base hits, nine walks, and 12 RBIs over 71 plate appearances. “I’ve tried to play hard and show them what I could do,” said Bradley, a supplemental first-round pick in 2011 out of South Carolina. “I had no idea what to expect. It has been fun.” Globe: Jackie Bradley Jr. seems set for Opening Day with Red Sox You gotta love this; both for Bradley Jr. and the fact that the Red Sox seem to "get it". Fans want to see young, exciting players develop right in front of their eyes during this transition period for the Red Sox. Not a stop-gap, traveling veteran. Have to feel a little bad for Ryan Sweeney though. Papi goes down, Gomes shifts to DH and your path seems clear to make the Opening Day Roster...then this hot-shot prospect, not even on the 40-man roster, single-handedly ousts you from the Boston Red Sox. Oh well. Sweeney will sign with another club soon enough (Cardinals? Pirates?). It's going to be interesting to see where Farrell decides to play Bradley Jr. Monday in New York. Peter Abraham speculates he may be headed to a wide-ranging Yankee Stadium left field. However, don't be surprised if they decide to ease Jacoby Ellsbury back from his....his stubbed ankle? Is that what it is this time? Bradley Jr. making the club may be a slight TV ratings move, but who cares? It's all for the right reasons. This kid can flat out play ball. Let's be glad they didn't send him back to the minors for the bogus free-agent clock theory. If Bradley Jr. continues his Spring Training tear into the season, look for the 22-year-old to stick around for awhile.
