Sir TheoEvery morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.3

The Red Sox managerial search took an unexcpected turn late Wednesday night, as multiple reports indicate that Red Sox candidate Dale Sveum was offered the managerial position by Theo Epstein and the Chicago Cubs.

CSNNE.com Red Sox Insider Sean McAdam can confirm that Sveum was offered the Cubs job. It's not certain whether or not he will take the job, but it's likely that he will.

There was always the feeling that if Sveum was offered the position by both clubs, he'd lean towards Chicago.

Red Sox GM Ben Cherington confirmed earlier Wednesday night that Pete Mackanin was informed that he was out of the running for the Sox' position.

As of early Wednesday, Sandy Alomar, Jr., and Gene Lamont had not been contacted by the Red Sox in regards to a second interview. The Sox are, however, set to widen their managerial search, according to Sox president Larry Lucchino.

They will not ask to interview any current MLB managers, Ben Cherington told reporters.

CSNNE:Cubs offer Sveum managerial position

First Theo is being cocky about how valuable he is so the Sox can get properly compensated and now he wants to go after Cherington's lead candidate to be a manager. Sad part is that Sveum would be better off taking the Cubs job as there is less pressure. Peter Gammons, who continues to take shots at Sox ownership, tweeted this morning:

"What "Red Sox Nation" doesn't fathom is how the post-departure media trashing of Terry Francona made industry folks repulsed by nastiness."

He's absolutely wrong. Sox fans know all to well that the smear campaigns make the franchise look awful. (Gammons knows all too well about how to start a smear campaign.) My issue with Gammons blaming the media is that many came out defending Tito because the article was such an unnecessary low blow. The bigger concern potential managers have is how much control they'll actually have. But it appears that Theo has won again. He should be forced to give us a top prospect now... the Cubs now have taken out GM and our top managerial candidate. Yes, i'm being bitter. I just want the managerial process to be done.
