Rick Scuteri-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Cubs apparently really wanted Yu Darvish, and the pitcher’s camp was quite impressed by their presentation.

Darvish’s agent, Joel Wolfe, compared the Cubs’ efforts to recruit Darvish to those of the University of Alabama.

“The Cubs — they know how to recruit a player,” Wolfe said, via Patrick Mooney of the Athletic. “It’s like the University of Alabama. They go the extra mile.”

The Cubs’ courtship of Darvish lasted much of the offseason, but the Cubs ultimately got their man. Apparently, their charm offensive had a lot to do with that. That said, while Nick Saban’s program certainly recruits well, perhaps another coach’s more aggressive, hands-on approach might have been a more apt comparison.
