Yusmeiro Petit won both his starts for the Giants this week after being inserted into the Giants rotation for the injured Matt Cain. Petit whiffed six batters over two innings finishing with 10 on the day. Maybe even more impressive was the fact that Petit struck out National League MVP candidate Paul Goldschmidt twice, making the Diamondbacks strand a total of four runners on the day. It was only his third start of the year and fourth in two years, but his 23 strikeouts in 17.1 innings this season is impressive. ..

SF Giants Rumors: Updates on Yusmeiro Petit, Matt Cain, Chad Gaudin and Jeremy Affeldt

Picture courtesy of Marko Realmonte While you were probably partying during your Labor Day Weekend, the San Francisco Giants took two out of three games from the Arizona Diamondbacks. Yesterday’s starting pitcher Yusmeiro Petit was in beast mode as he struck out a career high 10 in six plus innings. He’s now 2-0 since being called up by the Giants, and has a 3.12 ERA. I’m...

SF Giants Welcome Heath Hembree and the Seven Other September Call Ups

Hard throwing San Francisco Giants prospect reliever Heath Hembree dropped in the Baseball America rankings prior to the start of the 2013 season. Hembree went from number three in 2012, to number seven in the Giants top 10 prospects list. This is likely due to him missing some time in 2012 with an injury. Hembree still has a power arm, and should get some strong consideration...

Glimpse of the Future: Giants Prospect Ricky Oropesa

San Jose Giants First Baseman Ricky Oropesa, drafted in the third round out of USC in 2011, started the year in AA Richmond before unfortunately being demoted half way through the season back down to San Jose due to a slump in which he only hit around .200. However, since Oropesa’s stint back in San Jose, he has been ripping the ball, hitting .307 with 8 homeruns and 38 RBI...

Petit sharp again as Giants top Diamondbacks 8-2

The Giants might have a new candidate for the 2014 rotation. Yusmeiro Petit a 28-year-old journeyman who's with his fifth organization is peaking and forcing the Giants to consider him in their plans. "It's great to have him doing what he's doing" manager Bruce Bochy said after Petit earned his second straight win an 8-2 decision over the Diamondbacks on Sunday...

Giant Predictions: The International Free Agent Market and More…

One way or another, the San Francisco Giants are going to have a busy offseason. Whether it is through domestic or international Free Agents, or trades, the Giants need to make some sort of move to shore up both their starting rotation, and there offense and I don’t want to hear a word about Yusmiero Petit either. TWO STARTS PEOPLE! TWO! All signs point to the Giants resigning...

Petit fans 10, Giants beat Corbin, Arizona 8-2

Yusmeiro Petit struck out a career-high 10, Hector Sanchez drove in three runs and the San Francisco Giants beat Arizona 8-2 on Sunday to take two of three from the Diamondbacks. Hunter Pence homered, doubled and singled, driving in two runs and scoring three times as the Giants improved to 10-5 against Arizona this season. Patrick Corbin (13-5), pitching on an extra two days&...

Giants' Matt Cain on track to start Saturday

San Francisco Giants right-handed starting pitcher Matt Cain hit the disabled list for the first time in his career when a line drive connected with his forearm. It looks like his first stint on the DL won't last long, as after yesterday's successful bullpen session manager Bruce Bochy said Cain is on track to rejoin the Giants' rotation Saturday, according to AJ Cassavell...

Giants, Zito stumble against Padres

Barry Zito was on the road and once again, it wasn't very kind to him. Regardless where Zito pitches these days, the results are usually the same: another loss. Ian Kennedy beat an NL West opponent for the first time in 12 starts this season, pitching the San Diego Padres past the San Francisco Giants 4-1 on Monday. Zito (4-11) lost his eighth straight decision. He has won...

Corbin, D-backs drop series finale with Giants

PHOENIX (AP) -- Yusmeiro Petit struck out a career-high 10, Hector Sanchez drove in three runs and San Francisco beat Arizona 8-2 on Sunday to take two of three from the Diamondbacks. Hunter Pence homered, doubled and singled, driving in two runs and scoring three times as the Giants improved to 10-5 against the D-backs this season. Patrick Corbin (13-5), pitching on an extra two...

Young Giants fan a true Robin Hood

While I'm not necessarily a fan of enabling kids who cry when they don't get what they want, you have to hand it to one young fan who made another little boy's day at Sunday's game between the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Francisco Giants. As you can see in the video below, Diamondbacks outfielder Gerardo Parra was attempting to toss a foul ball to a little boy in...

Giants lose 4-3 on walk-off by D-backs

Arizona got the leadoff hitter in the ninth inning and San Francisco had an open base with Paul Goldschmidt up next. Instead of giving the NL RBIs leader a chance to end the game, the Giants decided to intentionally walk him and take their chances with Eric Chavez. It didn't work. Chavez lined the first pitch he saw from Sandy Rosario in the ninth inning for a game-ending...

The Giants Shut Out The Dodgers For The Championship!

Yup, it’s true!  The Arizona League Giants shut out the Dodger squad to finish what was a dominating season and when the league’s championship!  Of course, this is a league where the championship is a single game, rather than a series like we’re usually used to, but it’s not a bad thing!  And, sure, the kids in the league are so young they have to use bottled water in...

Giants-Padres Preview

When the San Francisco Giants signed Barry Zito to the then-richest contract for a pitcher in major league history prior to the 2007 season, they believed the former Cy Young Award winner from across the bay would anchor their rotation for years to come. Now considered one of the biggest free-agent busts ever, Zito is limping toward the end of what could be his final season with...

Kennedy leads Padres over Giants

The San Francisco Giants have two of the last three World Series titles milestones achieved on the strength of their starting pitching. The Padres have far less to dampen the thud of another letdown season. But besides unforeseen identical records they appear to be gaining ground on the Giants in one noteworthy respect. Continuing the fine work the past two days of Andrew Cashner...
