I’m not sure anyone expected 40-year-old Miguel Batista, who hadn’t won a start since July of last year, to come out and toss the kind of game he did tonight.  The 17-year veteran pitched six strong innings against the Marlins while allowing only two runs en route to his 100th career win.

The bullpen made things interesting late before Bobby Parnell came in and eventually closed the door for his 4th save of the season.  With the Marlins scoring three runs to start the 9th inning fans were thankful that offense provided enough of a cushion to ensure this one would not get away.  New York took advantage of three errors by Florida and Lucas Duda drove in 2 more with an opposite field double over the head of Logan Morrison, giving him 29 RBI in 44 games since the All-Star break (.328 avg, .830 OPS).

David Wright also drove in 2 runs on the night as the third basemen managed to hit safely in all 5 games of this series (9-16, .563 avg, 4 RBI).

Los Mets have now won six of their last seven games as they head to Washington for a three games against the struggling Nationals, losers of 8 out of their last 9.  If the Amazin’s can leave the nations capital with a sweep, this team will once again hit the .500 mark, something few people thought would happen when they sat eight games under (60-68) just nine days ago.  R.A. Dickey, who earned his sixth win of the year by throwing 7 shutout innings in his last start, will get game 1 started against Ross Detwiller at 7:05 p.m..
