The New York Daily News is reporting that the New York Mets have placed 1B/LF Lucas Duda on the 15-day disabled list and have called up veteran Mets farmhand Zach Lutz. Lutz, 27, was hitting .286/.372/.481 in Las Vegas prior to getting the call. Many believed that Ike Davis was going to be set to rejoin the team with word of Duda’s injury, but the organization believes that the first baseman needs more time to redevelop his swing in Vegas. The move may have come as a surprise to some, but it appears to be the right move. Lutz has done nothing but impress throughout his tenure in the Mets farm system and has yet to receive a call not because of performance, but rather because the corner infield positions in Flushing have been clogged. Lutz is a strong offensive presence at the plate and an above-average power threat. He blasted a career-high 19 home runs in 2010 in only 72 games but hasn’t reached the plateau since largely because of injury. The Reading native only appeared in 213 games from 2010-2012 but has finally been able to remain on the field in 2013. Lutz and Josh Satin -Two farmhands that had been blocked by Ike Davis and David Wright prior to 2013- are now getting their first prolonged look at big league action. Satin has been successful in his limited role with the club thus far, going 3-8 with three walks in 11 plate appearances. Lutz is set to join the team on Sunday in Philadelphia for the Mets and Phillies  rubber match. Photo Credit: Michael Baron
