Found June 19, 2013 on The Fantasy Fix:
Tuesday marks the big league debut of two of baseball’s most exciting prospects: Zack Wheeler and Wil Myers. Both Wheeler and Myers were high first-round talents drafted in 2009, Myers slipped to the third round due to perceived bonus demands. Despite, or perhaps because of, their elite amateur statuses both Wheeler and Myers were traded for established major league All-Stars before their own big league careers began. And now both Wheeler and Myers will make their debuts on the same day; both during double-headers. Should we expect similar results from these two? For that a closer look is needed. Zack Wheeler A 6-foot-4 right-hander from East Paulding High School in Dallas, Georgia, Wheeler was the sixth-overall selection in 2009 by San Francisco. The Giants later shipped Wheeler to the Big Apple in exchange for Carlos Beltran at the 2011 trade deadline. Changes in organization seem to have had little effect on Wheeler’s development as he’s posted excellent numbers at just about eve...

A Deeper Look At Zack Wheeler’s Debut

I noticed a few things during Zack Wheeler’s start I’d like to point out. A few things impressed me and there are some things that are noteworthy after doing some research: Of Wheeler’s seven strikeouts, six were swinging and it was only the opposing pitcher that took a called third strike. All seven third strikes were fastballs. Six were four-seamers, none of those were less...

Wil Myers Could Roil the Tampa Bay Rays’ Lefty Lineup

“Injecting one more bat against right-handed pitching that we felt had a chance to do some damage was something that we wanted to do.” That’s Tampa Bay Rays Executive Vice President Andrew Friedman talking about calling up top prospect Wil Myers to join the big league club.  Throughout his press appearance Sunday, Friedman emphasized the rookie’s success against right-handers...

Wil Myers lives dream, starts another journey in Boston

It was a start. There is little else that can be said about Wil Myers Tampa Bay Rays debut. This will be an evolving story, one that promises twists and turns, ups and downs, and it had to begin somewhere. That beginning happened on a major stage, certainly. There was a time early Tuesday, with Myers going through his pregame stretches at Fenway Park, when he allowed himself to...

Top prospect Zack Wheeler ready for NY Mets debut

Zack Wheeler is excited about his big league debut with the New York Mets, especially since he'll be pitching not far from where he grew up. Wheeler is a native of suburban Atlanta and will have plenty of family and friends in the stands at Turner Field on Tuesday night, when he pitches the second game of a doubleheader against the Braves. The 23-year-old right-hander is one...

''I know it's going to be a big moment in my life,'' Wheeler said Monday, the day before he takes the mound against the first-place Atlanta Braves. ''There's probably going...

It’s Zack Wheeler Time

It’s the moment San Francisco Giants fans have dreaded since that fateful day in 2011: Right-handed pitching prospect Zack Wheeler has been promoted to the big leagues and will make his first start of his MLB career on Tuesday evening. On July 28, 2011, the hurler became the property of the New York Mets when the Giants traded the sixth overall pick of the 2009 amateur draft during...

Yesterday could not have been better for Mets fans. The Atlanta Braves saw some serious heat yesterday. According to Brooksbaseball.net, here is the fastball breakdown...

We Now Return You To Your Regularly Scheduled Beatings

It was nice after the "Super Tuesday" doubleheader to forget a lot of our problems and just allow ourselves to dream. And to bathe in the virtual beer that Zack Wheeler felt for real because let's face it ... when one gets doused with cheap beer, we all get doused in cheap beer. But we feel the bad times too. Oh boy, do we feel the bad times. For example, when...
