Casilla earns start at short with strong bat
His offensive struggles got Alexi Casilla taken out of the role as the Twins' everyday shortstop. After a couple strong games at the plate while playing second base, Casilla found himself back at shortstop Friday against the Angels.

Twins Avoid Arbitration With Casilla
Alexi Casilla’s pay is getting almost doubled, as he goes from making $437,500 last year to $865,000 this year. After a couple of subpar seasons offensively, Casilla had a 105 wRC+ last year, though that was in just 170 plate appearances and this is likely just a result of a small sample. Twins agree to one-year deal with Alexi Casilla
In a Tweet by Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated, the Minnesota Twins have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with Alexi Casilla for a one-year, $865,000 contract. The deal will avoid the arbitration process for both sides.
The 26-year-old Casilla hit .276/.331/.395 in 69 games for the Twins in 2010. He will continue to be under team control through the 2013 season.
