Backup infielder Andres Blanco is among five players that the American League champion Texas Rangers outrighted off their 40-man roster after each cleared waivers.
The Rangers also outrighted infielder Esteban German and right-handers Omar Beltre, Eric Hurley and Merkin Valdez on Wednesday.
Blanco wasn't on the postseason roster after missing six weeks during the season because...

As I mentioned earlier today Andres Blanco could be on the verge of getting traded, and as it so happens that Andres Blanco has indeed been traded to the Texas Rangers for Cash Considerations or a player to be named later. Last year, Blanco hit .252 with the Cubs in a utility role for the [...]

From the Wire ... Cubs Trade Blanco to Texas
According to a tweet from the Sun-Times, the Cubs traded Andres Blanco on Saturday for a PTBNL or cash considerations. Blanco was out of options and with Mike Fontenot beginning the season as the Cubs back-up shortstop, it did not appear he would make the team.

2009 Recap: Andres Blanco
Well, here's the story on Andres Blanco, and it has to include Ryan Theriot, our regular shortstop.

And that day in the Dominican I watched the greatest young defensive shortstop I had ever seen. I don’t want that...

Seven weeks, thirty-seven games, Team Japan, high skies, a lot of wind and a trip to Las Vegas later and Lou Piniella's crew finished the Arizona portion of their exhibition season with a walk-off win. The Cubs ended a five game winless streak and finished with an 18-16...

Cubs release yet another top draft pick
Mark Pawelek was released today by the organization. The Cubs drafted him in the 1st round in 2005 out of some high school in Utah. Never a good move, in my opinion, to draft somebody from a school where there is little or no talent. Why not select some dude from Anchorage High? Anyway, a week ago the Cubs released 2003 1st round pick Ryan Harvey. I wouldn’t be too surprised...
