Photopost: Fighters vs. Dragons @ Kamagaya -- The Nakata Show, Take Two
This post is not actually heavy on Sho Nakata photos, but I was down at Kamagaya on Tuesday the 16th for the final Fighters preseason game, which was against the Chunichi Dragons. Or should I say, it was against the Chunichi Dragons' minor-league team. After all, these were the starting lineups:Chunichi Fighters-------- --------Ohshima rf ...

Game of the Decade
It's difficult to put the final regular season Metrodome game into words. After fighting in the final month and overcoming a seven-game deficit in the American League Central by ending the season on a 17-4 run, the Minnesota Twins made the playoffs with a victory in Game 163.It wasn't just an ordinary victory. It was a victory consisting of ups and downs and gut-wrenching moments...

Twins and pitch counts.
About now, I should be extolling the virtues of having Philip Humber, Bobby Keppel and Jesse Crain in the bullpen, a group whose collective contributions this month prior to last night’s game was a .314 average against along with 14 extra base hits. Humber was unhittable last night, but not the good kind. Keppel continued to be hit hard but miraculously escaped several jams...

Keppel.
When Bobby Keppel was called up from Rochester on June 24th, the Twins were in need of a reliever that could produce at a sustainable pace. Luis Ayala, the touted "groundball" pitcher, failed to do so and drew the ire of Ron Gardenhire by leaving too many sliders up in the zone. As replacement level-type pitcher getting groundballs at a 51 percent clip in AAA, Keppel would be...

Fixing a Gas Leak
After an absolutely horrid start to the season, the bullpen looked to be turning things around in May and June. But at such an inconvenient time, when the starting pitching started taking a nose-dive, the bullpen followed suit.
Now the bullpen ranks 22nd in MLB with a 4.22 ERA and have given up the sixth most home runs. In 16 games since the All-Star Break, the team is 7-9, but the...

Plunking Gomez - The Nerve of Some People
As I mentioned in my previous post, the Twins have designated reliever Luis Ayala for assignment and called up Bobby Keppel. The move didn't make much sense at the time, as Ayala wasn't the worst pitcher in the bullpen and Keppel certainly isn't much of an upgrade. If anything, Sean Henn is the one who should have been DFA'd, since he's a left-handed reliever who isn't very effective...
