Brandon Belt looks to put past season behind him
Moises Alou, the former Giants outfielder, is general manager of the Escogido baseball club in the Dominican Republic. Brandon Belt played for Escogido last fall. As Belt took batting practice early in the winter-league...

Checking out the Competition: NL West First Basemen
Now that the start of the season is within view I thought it would be nice to take a little bit of time and take a look at how the teams in the NL West compare to each other.
Yesterday I took a look at the catchers and today it is time to move on to the first basemen the projections for each using the ZIPS projections from Baseball Think Factory and projected starters...

Position Projections: First Base
Hello again, there is not much going on for the Giants this off-season, so I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to start the 2012 position projections. Spring training is right around the corner and Fan Fest has come and gone. Starting with first base, these 2012 projections:
Aubrey Huff
Huff, 35, is coming off a pretty lousy season with the Giants. After a terrific 2010...

Brandon Belt and the Annual Spring Training Overreaction
It is a slow news time of year before we start seeing the arbitration players start signing and we are still over a month away from pitchers and catcher reporting.
However Chris Haft who writes for MLB.com has a new mail bag out today really sums up a line of thinking that just drives me mad, the magnification of Spring Training stats.
Here is the question...

The Giants need patience with Brandon Belt's strikeout problem
Once upon a time the Giants had an awesome hitting prospect, he had all the tools one could ask for, he had good power, made contact well and by all accounts was a very good fielder.
At each minor league level against inferior pitching he looked like the second coming of Babe Ruth, a real can't miss prospect that was the envy of every scouting director and general...

Brandon Belt Can't HIt the Breaking Ball
Bats, they are sick. I cannot hit curveball. Straightball I hit it very much. Curveball, bats are afraid.- Pedro Cerrano, Major League 1989
Brandon Belt has struggled to hit the curveball this season. If there was one thing I would point to and say that is why he is struggling that is it right there.
According the the pitch type values from Fangraphs Belt has done well against...

SF Giants Rumors: Belt’s Breakout Game, Player Injuries
Have a game Brandon Belt! Belt had a career high four hit game, and one of them was a 3-Run BOMB!
I know I’m not the only one that thinks Bruce Bochy needs to play Belt more. We have a lot of slumping players, and I don’t think they should just keep getting trotted out their cause they’re veterans. It’s time to let Belt show you what he can do on an everyday...

Game Recap: Giants 5, Marlins 2
The Giants had two options with Brandon Belt: they could have taken the Freddie Freeman approach, giving him a long leash and an everyday job right off the bat; but instead they took….whatever approach it is they took.
March 30: Belt makes Giants out of Spring Training
April 20: Belt optioned to Fresno
May 26: Belt recalled from Fresno
June 5: Belt placed on 15-day DL
July 8: Belt...

Brandon Belt recalled for 100th time; Torres to DL
Belt: Have bat, will travel. (Photo by Jed Jacobsohn, Getty)
The San Francisco Giants have called up Brandon Belt from Triple-A Fresno for like the millionth time (it seems like anyway) and they've placed outfielder Andres Torres on the 15-day disabled list due to a bruised ego.... er, I mean shin.
Still no word on Carlos Beltran, though. He is not in the Giants' starting...
