(by Mike Henderson) Being selected in a high round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft may be a recognitioin of promise, but it's no guarantee of success. Ask Nats utilityman Brian Bixler, a 2004 second-rounder whose career -- unlike those of better-known 2004 second-rounders like Dustin Pedroia -- is still a work in progress.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have traded shortstop Brian Bixler to the Washington Nationals for cash considerations, according to William Ladson of MLB.com.  Bixler was traded before the 2010 season to the Cleveland Indians for Jesus Brito, then was acquired from Cleveland for a player to be named later, or cash considerations.  This latest move comes a week after Bixler was demoted from AAA to AA.
