CARLOS MARMOL RUMORS

Carlos Marmol Player Projection No. 117

Key Stats: Only Craig Kimbrel had more strikeouts among closers last season than Carlos Marmol. Strikeouts are never the first thing that we think about with relief pitchers, but they might as well be when it comes to draft decisions. Saves are a direct reflection on a team's ability to win close games. As we've seen countless times, bundles of saves can happen from guys like Heath...

Could Cubs Carlos Marmol interest the Phillies?

Carlos Marmol had a star-crossed 2011 season for the Cubs.   He started the season in dominant fashion before allowing 6 runs in one third of an inning on 5/31 against Houston.   When Marmol goes bad he goes real bad.  The Cubs lackluster infield defense didn’t do him any favors in 2011 either.  He posted an  ERA of 4.01 last year but that number is inflated from allowing...

The Chicago Cubs Should Make a Run at Joe Nathan

The Chicago Cubs already have a closer in Carlos Marmol, and yet I’m suggesting the Cubs go after free agent Joe Nathan this offseason. Why is that exactly? Joe Nathan has been one of the best relievers in baseball for a long time. He missed some time due to Tommy John surgery and like most guys- struggled a bit in his return. Speaking as someone who has had the surgery, it...

Should the Chicago Cubs Trade Carlos Marmol?

With the year Carlos Marmol has had, I could definitely understand if the new GM came in and tried to trade Carlos Marmol and free up his contract- while bringing back a few top prospects. Relievers are always high in demand, and I think a big market team would be very interested in his services. Personally? I think the Cubs should look into trading Marmol. He’s really dropped...

Is Carlos Marmol the Best Closer in Baseball Right Now?

Amidst all the issues with closing pitchers around Major League Baseball right now, I think it’s safe to say that Carlos Marmol is one of the best closers in the game right now. But is he the best? The cream of the crop? The head honcho? Joe Nathan, one of the top closers of the [...]

Could the Carlos Marmol contract come back to haunt the Cubs?

Ah the life of a Major League GM. You basically get to play fantasy baseball will real players and other people's money. The only drawback is that you have people like me scrutinizing your every move. Take the recent Carlos Marmol signing. On the face of it, its a pretty good deal for the Cubs and Marmol. The Cubs signed Marmol to a 3 year, $20 million deal, effectively...

Carlos Marmol doesn't care about ATM fees any more

Carlos Marmol gets a 3-year, $20 million dollar contract. I like the deal, but...man, what would that feel like? "Hey Tim, these blog posts have been AWESOME!Here's $3.2 million dollars for the rest of the year, and next you'll get 7, and then the year after 9.1 to make it an even Twenty Million Dollars." Of course we've all been hearing about giant contracts...

Cubs News and Notes from Day One of Camp 'Q'

The biggest news out of the first day of on field workouts was the three-year, $20 million deal signed by Carlos Marmol. The Cubs backloaded the contract that buys Marmol out of his last two years of arbitration eligibility and his first year of free agency. Marmol received a $1 million signing bonus as a part of his $3.2 million salary for 2011. Marmol will receive $7 million in...

Cubs Officially Announce Carlos Marmol Extension

The Chicago Cubs announced today that they have signed closer Carlos Marmol to a three year deal, worth $20 Million. Marmol is set to earn $3.2 million 2011, $7 million in 2012, and $9.8 million in 2013. Marmol’s deal also includes a limited no trade clause. In the end, I think this was a good deal for both sides involved. As Marmol took less money in 2011, leading him to get...
