CESAR JIMENEZ RUMORS

Jimenez relishes first win of difficult career

For left-handed reliever Cesar Jimenez, the first win was a long time coming. Five years and 10 days, to be exact, from the time he made his Major League debut for the Mariners in 2006 to his first victory in Wednesday's 5-4 nail-biter over the Twins at Target Field.

Jimenez outrighted to Tacoma; Gutierrez headed to 15-day DL

The Mariners outrighted left-hander Cesar Jimenez to Triple-A Tacoma. The move apparently clears a roster spot for reliever Tom Wilhelmsen. And it appears Franklin Gutierrez will start the season on the 15-day disabled list, while reliever Mauricio Robles is headed to the 60-day DL. Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times reports that the moves won’t [...]

Today's Outrights: Boggs, Jimenez

Several players cleared waivers and were removed from the 40-man roster today by way of an outright assignment.  The latest: Brewers outfielder Brandon Boggs is headed to Triple-A Nashville, tweets Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.  Boggs, 28, hit .290/.406/.470 in 439 Triple-A plate appearances last year while playing all three outfield positions. The Mariners...

Tom Wilhelmsen Claims Final Bullpen Spot

The M’s went with upside in the last spot in the bullpen and have decided to carry Tom Wilhelmsen as the final reliever, outrighting Cesar Jimenez off the 40 man roster in the process. Wilhelmsen has the stuff to be a quality reliever, but after spending five years out of baseball and then topping out in A-ball last year, it’s a legitimate question of how ready he is...

The Chicago White Sox used a four-run eighth inning to blow open a close game and cruise to a 6-1 win over the Mariners on Thursday in Glendale, Ariz. Cesar Jimenez gave up a leadoff triple to Paul Konerko to start the big inning. After a strikeout and two walks, Yusmeiro Petit came on to [...]

Ten Added to the 40-Man

To think that we were saying last year was an opportunity to add some fringe guys because there was space. Back then, we added six, and this time, ten players were added, those being OF Johermyn Chavez, RHP Maikel Cleto, LHP Cesar Jimenez, 3B Alex Liddi, RHP Josh Lueke, RHP Yoervis Medina, OF Carlos Peguero, RHP Michael Pineda, LHP Mauricio Robles, and RHP Tom Wilhelmsen. If you’re...

Pitching Staff Shuffle

This was mentioned in the last post, but I figured it could use its own post. The Mariners got rid of all but four lefties today when they returned Jose Lugo, DL’d Cesar Jimenez and sent down Garrett Olsen.  That leaves Erik Bedard, Jarrod Washburn, Ryan Rowland-Smith and Tyler Johnson.  Bedard is a lock as the [...]
