CHRIS COGHLAN RUMORS

Florida Marlins: Chris Coghlan has setback; JJ still on no-throw

Marlins outfielder Chris Coghlan was recalled from his rehab assignment with Double-A Jacksonville because of soreness in his surgically repaired left knee. Coghlan after played two games with Class-A Jupiter appeared in five games with the Suns and went 4-for-19 (.211) with a double, four walks and a strikeout. “The knee stiffened up a bit  and we want to back him off and get...

Marlins CF Coghlan goes on DL

Florida Marlins center fielder Chris Coghlan has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with left knee inflammation, voiding his earlier demotion to Triple-A New Orleans. The DL move was made Monday and retroactive to Friday, the day he had been optioned to the minors. The change came after the injury was diagnosed. Coghlan, the 2009 NL Rookie of the Year, is hitting .230 with...

Coghlan’s homecoming ruined as he is demoted to minors

(Posted by Ted Hutton) Used to be when the Marlins came to Tropicana Field it was a big deal for the Coghlan clan, who would come out to cheer on centerfielder Chris Coghlan, who grew up in Tarpon Springs, just a short drive north of St. Petersburg. So there was a bit of shock reverberating around The Tropic Friday afternoon as news filtered out that Coghlan had been sent down to...

Coghlan out of Friday’s lineup

(Posted by Ted Hutton) That sore shoulder that has bothered Chris Coghlan all spring and all regular season is keeping him out of the lineup Friday as the Marlins start a 7-game road trip in Cincy. The outfield is Bonifacio in left, Cousins in center and Stanton in right. Stanton is still not 100 percent, and with Logan Morrison reduced to twitter-only mode with his foot sprain,...

Coghlan, Stanton to play in minor league games

Outfielders Mike Stanton and Chris Coghlan will play in another minor league game Wednesday as they try to return from injury. Stanton is still suffering from a strained quad and Coghlan a strained shoulder. If all goes well, Edwin Rodriguez may play them Thursday in a Spring game. However, everyone is optimistic that they will be ready for Opening Day next Friday.

Coghlan not ready for Opening Day?

According to Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post, outfielder Chris Coghlan may not be ready for Opening Day due to soreness in his right shoulder. Coghlan was scratched from Thursday’s lineup versus St. Louis and there could be a chance that he plays in a few minor league games for the rest of the spring. Expect Emilio Bonifacio to get the majority of the playing time if Coghlan...

Is Chris Coghlan Ready to Patrol Center for the Florida Marlins?

Chris Coghlan won the rookie of the year award for the Florida Marlins a couple years ago. He missed a large chunk of the past season for…throwing pies around, and now he’s being told he’ll be in contention to play center field this year. The question I pose- is he ready for that job full time? Look Coghlan is a great athlete and has played multiple positions for...

Why not Stanton in CF?

Maniac reader Ehsan brought this to my attention recently, and it’s a damn good point: Mike Stanton in his minor league career has also racked up time in CF, something (sic) that Coghlan and Morrison can’t say that have experience of. Stanton was actually a really good defender out in center in fact. In 46 games in center, Stanton has RF/G of 2.52 (actually higher then...

Reflecting on Coghlan’s sophomore effort

With Chris Coghlan scheduled to have the surgery repairing his torn meniscus today, I figured it would be a good a time as any to take a look at the disappointing sophomore effort. No one expected going into the season that Coghlan would play as well as his 2009 Rookie of the Year performance. Clearly, the signs pointed towards simple regression to the mean. Of course, none of us...

Coghlan injury assures status quo

Editor’s note: Posting will be sporadic between yesterday (Monday) and Wednesday, as I am preparing to move out of Gainesville, FL. After Wednesday, you should see a little more of me. Thanks for the patience, loyal reader(s). -MJ After the stupid injury suffered two nights ago by Chris Coghlan, any shot of the Marlins trading Dan Uggla or Cody Ross by this upcoming trade...
