Brewers Outright Chris Smith
The Brewers have sent Chris Smith outright to Triple-A Nashville, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The move clears a spot on the roster for Todd Coffey, who is returning from a stint on the disabled list.
After Smith recorded an impressive 1.71 ERA and 12.4 K/9 in 23 appearances as Nashville's closer, he was called up when the Brewers...

Smith sent to Nashville
Reliever Chris Smith, designated for assignment by the Milwaukee Brewers last week, cleared waivers Monday and was assigned outright to Class AAA Nashville.
Smith does not have to report, however.
Because it is not the first outright assignment for Smith, he has the right to decline it and become a free agent. Assistant general manager Gord Ash said Smith had 48 hours to decide.

Jason Kendall Will Call You Whatever He Damn Pleases, Mr. Bellyflop
During last night's brutal Pittsburgh/Milwaukee tilt, Brewers pitcher Chris Smith hit Pirates pitcher Jeff Karstens with a seemingly unintentional beanball. This led to a bench-clearing non-brawl where no punches were thrown and no hard feelings were consummated. This isn't hockey, people.
During the brawl, Pirates pitching coach Joe Kerrigan had to restrain Karstens from attacking...

Before the Pirates' 8-5 win last night, the Brewers had taken 17 straight games between the two teams, dating back to May 22nd of last season. Somehow (or maybe because of the losing streak, though the...

Mike Timlin to be activated from the DL
Mike Timlin is going to join the team at Yankee Stadium today and be activated off the disabled-list. Timlin rocked a 7.06 ERA in 21.2 innings pitched so far this year until he was shelved with tendinitis in his knee on June 17th. Chris Smith is the odd man out and will be sent back to Pawtucket to make room for Mike.

Who is Chris Smith?
I can make a safe assumption that nobody else in the history of baseball has had their career start off like Chris Smith. He spent six years in the minors while undergoing two arm surgeries and fighting through another barrage of injuries thanks to an ATV accident. Now he has finally broken through with the big league team and experienced a no-hitter from the bullpen, struck out...
