ST. LOUIS -- There is just one left. When the Pirates announced Wednesday that pitcher Craig Hansen had been unconditionally released at his request, it left one player in the organization who had been acquired in the deadline-day deal in July 2008 that sent outfielder Jason Bay to the Boston Red Sox.

The Pirates released Craig Hansen today. Hansen was part of the three-team trade in July 2008 that sent Jason Bay to the Red Sox and Manny Ramirez to the Dodgers. With Brandon Moss and Andy LaRoche elsewhere and Hansen on the free agent market, only Bryan Morris remains on the Pirates, meanwhile neither Bay or Ramirez remain with the Red Sox or Dodgers respectively.

Pirates release RHP Craig Hansen
The Pittsburgh Pirates have released right handed pitcher Craig Hansen according to Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com. The right hander has been recovering from a rare nerve issue adds Langosch.
Hansen, 27, had a 5.68 ERA in 6.1 innings throughout five games in 2009 with the Pirates.

Pirates sign Meyer; finally release Hansen
The Pirates made two very minor transactions that probably don't warrant a post. But I'm bored, so here we go.
First off, left handed reliever Dan Meyer was signed to a minor league deal and will report to AAA-Indianapolis. He has pitched in the majors for parts of 5 seasons with Oakland and Florida. Over 113.2 innings, he's posted an ERA of 5.46 and has 92 K to go...

Confirmation: The Sox sold high on Craig Hansen
As if you had any doubt that Theo was right in moving Craig Hansen as part of the Jason Bay/Manny Ramirez deal a few years back, it can now be confirmed. Hansen, after years of injuries, has been released by the Pirates.
Hansen started off the 2009 season with the Pirates, but only made five appearances, with a 5.68 ERA in 6.1 innings. After that he went on the disabled list...

Justin Masterson called up to start this afternoon for the Red Sox
Pitcher Justin Masterson was called up from the Portland Sea Dogs today to make a spot-start against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Craig Hansen was sent back down to make room for him.
