Astros relief pitcher David Carpenter had dozens of friends and family members in attendance for Monday's game against the Pirates in Pittsburgh. Carpenter grew up in nearby, Fairmont, W.Va., and played baseball at West Virginia University.

Carpenter called up to join Astros' bullpen
David Carpenter, a right-handed reliever who has thrown 19 consecutive scoreless innings at Triple-A Oklahoma City, was called up by the Astros and was in uniform for Wednesday night's game against the Texas Rangers at Minute Maid Park.

Astros sign David Carpenter
The Houston Astros have signed right handed pitcher David Carpenter for $414,000 according to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com. Carpenter was involved in the Pedro Feliz's trade with the St. Louis Cardinals in August last year.
In 7.2 innings with the Astros' Class-A+ last year, Carpenter was 1-1 with a 3.52 ERA and 8 SO.

Story
Having read some of the comments in the other thread, I think everyone is WAY off base here. I’m not a fan of Pedro Feliz but David Carpenter was not a top 5 relief prospect and probably not a top 30 prospect. We traded a non-prospect for a really bad player. It’s perhaps the least consequential move possible but no one should be disappointed about losing Carpenter...

Cardinals Acquire Veteran Third Baseman
The St. Louis Cardinals have received third baseman Pedro Feliz from the Houston Astros in return for minor league pitcher David Carpenter.
