You Can’t Measure Heart, or David Eckstein Bows Out
Hat Tip: The Orange County Register
In case you missed this news earlier in the week, David Eckstein in leaning toward retirement. He hasn’t officially declared yet, but considering Eckstein didn’t play at all last season (and he doesn’t seem to excited about the offers he has received), it seems likely that it’s only a matter of time.
Since this seems to...

Veteran Infielder David Eckstein has decided to call it a career according to Nick Carfado of the Boston Globe. The 2 time All Star and 2006 World Series MVP decided to retire even though multiple clubs were willing to give him a shot in spring training. During June of last year it was reported that he was choosing not to play and when asked if he would return to baseball, Eckstein...

2006 St. Louis Cardinal World Series MVP David Eckstein Narrates David and Goliath
World Series MVP's from the St. Louis Cardinals continue having big hits in 2011. David Eckstein, 2006 St. Louis Cardinal World Series MVP, narrates the first interactive version of the David and Goliath story book app for kids in a recently released app based on the biblical classic. Eckstein, as many of my St. Louis baseball fans recall, played the role of "David" in...

End of the Road for David Eckstein?
At this point in baseball’s off-season most players that have decided to play have found a home. For a decent number of older veterans that might only be a temporary home thanks to a minor league deal and an invite to spring training, but most guys that are planning on carrying on are reporting to someone’s camp this week. That is not the case with David Eckstein as of yet.

David Eckstein is (Still) Exceedingly Mediocre
Prior to the season, I was quite vocal about my lack of faith in David Eckstein, writing: “My lack of confidence in Eckstein is well documented. His bat is terrible, and his fielding is, at best, average. I have a hunch the San Diego Padres may end up releasing him mid-season. Eckstein is that bad.”
My pre-season projection for Eckstein mirrored my written summary:

Drop Everything…David Eckstein Is Good This Year
Well, that’s surprising.
After a 2009 that could be summed up as “listless” statistically, David Eckstein isn’t half bad.
Eckstein hit an ugly .260/.323/.334 last year, but he’s kicked that to .270/.328/.357. That doesn’t sound like much, but it’s 17 points of wOBA–from .296 to .313.
That means that David Eckstein has thus far been as good as a replacement-level second...
