Dodgers' Velez sets dubious mark
Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Eugenio Velez has broken a modern-day major league record for a non-pitcher by going hitless in his final 46 at-bats.
Velez grounded out to second as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning against the Arizona Diamondbacks in the regular-season finale Wednesday night. He broke the record of 45 straight at-bats that belonged to Pittsburgh's Bill Bergen ...

GIFcap: Eugenio Velez Does Eugenio Velez Things
Eugenio Velez just had the most Eugenio Velez plate appearance possible about 15-20 minutes ago.
Take a look for yourself.
Eugenio Velez Does Eugenio Velez Things
Via Eric Stephen, Velez is now 0 for his last 35 this season and 0 for his last 44 overall. He would own the single season record all by himself with an out in his next at-bat and would own the overall record with two more...

LOL of the Week: Dodgers sign Eugenio Velez
Velez will now drop fly balls in Chavez Latrine.
The Los Angeles Dodgers just can't seem to keep their stinkin' fingers off our guys. The boys in blue are so desperate for a piece of orange and black magic, they way-overpaid for Juan Uribe last month. Now, according to MLB Trade Rumors, the Dodgers have signed outfielder Eugenio Velez.
I know imitation is the most...

Eugenio Velez Signs with Dodgers
Well it appears we must bid him and his .256/.300/.388 career slash line good-bye. It's tough to lose a Giants great like Eugenio Velez to the Dodgers, but the reality is that baseball is a sport dominated by money. I guess Velez just couldn't refuse the Dodgers' lucrative minor league contract.

Dodgers Sign Former Giant Eugenio Velez
Jesus Colleti, superiority issues?! Miss your ex-Giants?!
The Dodgers signed the former Giants reserve utility man to a one year minor league deal late yesterday after he was non-tendered by the Giants earlier this month.
I was never a big fan of Velez’s, even though I felt awful for him when he was hit by a screaming foul ball in Arizona late in the year. A very nice guy,...

Eugenio Velez Hit In Head By Wayward Foul Ball
I’m not sure how to explain what happened last night, other than it was one of the most frightening moments that I can recently recall in any professional sport. But I’ll try my best to recount the situation for those not watching as it happened.
In the top of the fourth inning, Giants outfielder Pat Burrell hit a screaming line drive into the Giants dugout that hit Eugenio...

SCARY SITUATION
Giants' Velez Hit In Head By Foul Ball
A scary scene Saturday night in Arizona. The Giants' Pat Burrell fouls a pitch off into his team's dugout ... striking Eugenio Velez in the head. Velez was taken out of the dugout on a stretcher and, hopefully, will be alright.

Eugenio Velez Recalled – Joe Martinez Sent Down
Everybody’s favorite barn burner is back on the big league club.
The Giants needed to make a roster move – they had one too many pitchers up….but Velez? I understand the appeal of a utility guy…just not one named Velez. I really just can’t stand the guy.
Oh. And two hands, Eugenio. Two hands when you catch a ball.

The Writing Is On the Wall for Eugenio Velez
Two days after getting re-called to the Giants when Mark Derosa headed to the Disabled List, Eugenio Velez is heading back to Fresno after the Giants activated Freddy Sanchez for today's game against the Diamondbacks. The move is both surprising and predictable. While Velez still has an option left for the Giants (which makes it easier for the Giants to send him up and down between...

The Eugenio Velez experiment is over
Just as many San Francisco Giants fans were finally learning how to pronounce his name, Eugenio (ay-yoo-HAY-nee-oh) Velez's days as a Giant may be over. The team optioned him to Triple-A Fresno today and called up RHP Denny Bautista. Since Velez is out of Minor League options, he will have to clear waivers before the Giants can assign him to Fresno. That means that any...
