The Pirates avoided arbitration with two more pitchers today, reaching one-year deals with Jeff Karstens and Evan Meek.
Karstens will make $3.1 million. This was his second arbitration eligible year; he made $1.1 million last season.

The Pirates agreed to terms with two more players today, leaving only Garrett Jones and Casey McGehee still needing contracts heading into arbitration.

Pirates Agree to Terms With Evan Meek
The Pittsburgh Pirates have agreed to terms with right handed reliever Evan Meek, avoiding arbitration. Terms of the deal aren’t yet known, although Meek was projected to make $900 K by MLBTR. The deal leaves two players eligible for arbitration: Garrett Jones and Casey McGehee. More info will be added to this post as it comes.

Pittsburgh Pirates Off-day Notes: Meek Activated, Moskos Optioned
- According to Pirates Prospects, the Pittsburgh Pirates (22-24) have activated reliever Evan Meek from the 15-day DL. To make room for Meek on the 25-man roster, the team optioned lefty Danny Moskos to AAA Indianapolis.
Moskos allowed just one unearned run off two hits in 4.2 innings pitched. He struck out one and walked three.

Evan Meek's stay on DL may last more than 15 days
The Trib's Karen Price tweeted earlier today that Evan Meek, does, in fact, have tendinitis in his right shoulder. He is being listed as week-to-week. She goes on to also mention that there is a chance he will not be activated once he is eligible in order to give him more recovery time.
The Pirates can probably afford for Meek to take his time to make sure he is 100% before...

Evan Meek To DL, Pirates Recall Danny Moskos
Pittsburgh Pirates’ 2007 first round draft pick Danny Moskos has been recalled to the MLB team to replace reliever Evan Meek.
Meek was placed on the 15-day disabled list today.
Moskos, the fourth overall pick in 2007, has been dominant in AAA this season. He currently boasts a 1.69 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP in 10.2 innings in Indianapolis, along with a 7:1 K/BB ratio.

Pirates to place Evan Meek on disabled list
Dejan Kovacevic tweets that the Pirates will place set up man Evan Meek on the 15 day disabled list.
Meek has struggled as of late and has not looked himself as his fastball has not had the same zip on it lately as we are used to seeing. Kovacevic says the trip to the disabled list will give Meek "a chance to regain his strength." Let's hope it isn't anything...

Pirates Evan Meek Line Drived By Braun, Exits Game
The Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star relief pitcher was line drived by Ryan Braun in the bottom of the eighth. Meek immediately fell to his back after it appeared he took a direct hit to his pitching hand. Meek had raised his hand and glove to attempt to catch the liner that was scorched by Braun. Meek had to exit the game.

Evan Meek will be the Pirates' lone 2010 All-Star representative.
