Mets Should Retire # 17 In 2011
No I’m not talking about retiring number 17 for Fernando Tatis and the few weeks he produced for the Mets. Before Tatis there was another player for the Mets who wore 17. From June 15, 1983 to October 1, 1989 he wore 17 proudly for the New York Mets. This player won 5 Gold Gloves while he played 1st base. This player was a team captain. This player was a big reason why...

MLS Expands To Montreal ; Fernando Tatis Still Has A Shot At Goalkeeper Job In 2013
“This is a historic moment for Major League Soccer,” Garber said in Montreal on Friday morning. “We’re getting to that point where we are almost fully expanded.”
You wouldn’t think a club that recently lost to the Austin Aztex would be a candidate to join North America’s (alleged) First Division football federation, but that’s exactly what’s happen...

Morning Grind: Why Not K-Rod And Why Pinch Run Tatis?
Every now and then the Mets do something so baffling or so mind-boggling that I am prompted to do a post like this which I call the Morning Grind.
Was it just me or did anybody else have a big problem with Jerry Manuel when he substituted Fernando Tatis for Mike Jacobs as a pinch runner in the tenth inning?
It’s not like Tatis is a speed burner or something, and with the score...

1B update- Tatis, Jacobs, Murphy, Ike, Carter...
When will the Mets make a move, at this point it almost seems like there own arrogance is getting in the way. Look Murphy wasn't the answer before his knee buckled and after it did the answer should have been even easier, but somehow they came up Jacobs/Tatis platoon. Now a week into the season it seems so obvious that any fool could figure it out, except the Mets that is. Ok, so...

Chris Carter Is Free ...
... to go to Buffalo, as the Mets made their almost final cuts on Friday after Fernando Tatis' fly ball reached the warning track and no further against Tampa Bay on Friday night to end a 4-2 loss. Tatis and his .163 spring training average was not one of Friday's cuts. In a season where everybody should have been fighting for a job, it turns out Tatis was safe all along...

Mets On Verge Of Re-Signing Fernando Tatis
According to Mike Puma of the NY Post, the Mets are close to re-signing utility player Fernando Tatis.
Omar Minaya is deep into negotiations with Fernando Tatis for a return engagement, and could have a deal complete within a matter of days, according to a baseball source. That development would seem to eliminate the possibility of Carlos [...]

Heyman blasts Mets about Tatis
It's reported that if the Mets decide to pass on Delgado they will look to resign Fernando Tatis. I've said this before, if Tatis can produce as he did in 2008 and some of 2009 then at what he will cost, he's worth it. But I believe in the law of diminishing returns and that if we go into another year relying on Tatis, he will look like the double play machine he was...

Other teams interested in Tatis, are we...
There has not been a peep from the Mets in reference to Fernando Tatis which leads me to believe that the Mets are moving on.If Tatis could produce as he has for the last two years then even at double what he cost last year ( 1.75MM) he would be worth it but I think if the Mets were keeping him he would have either been offered arbitration or already signed by now. I believe there...

Is there a battle over Tatis..
I believe that re-signing Fernando Tatis is a mistake based on the law of diminishing returns. If Tatis can produce the numbers he has produced over the last two years then he is an asset and a bargain at what he will cost but the real question is can we really expect him to produce those numbers.Over the last two years while earning under 2MM he produced these numbers, BA .289,...

Gangsta Depreciation
Thank heaven for Gary Cohen, proving that I'm not the only one yodeling in a canyon. Here's what he said on Saturday in not so many words: "Why the $%*& is Fernando Tatis starting at first base for a 66-88 team while Nick Evans is rotting on the bench? Have we gone to the Tony Bernazard school for developing players?"So he didn't say exactly that, but he...
