Frank Francisco: The New York Mets Closer
Photo by Michael BaronWritten by TimHorodyskiWith spring Training right around the corner, the New York Mets seem content with their current 40 man roster. The Mets have several questions marks; such as who will play second base and will Johan Santana pitch like an ace. The one spot where there is no question is who will pitch the 9th inning. The man who manager Terry Collins...

Mets Mailbag: If Money Is So Tight, Why Did Mets Give Francisco So Much?
Here’s an interesting question that was posed to Anthony DiComo who does a pretty good job in his reply.
I just watched Brad Lidge sign a one-year contract for $1 million with the Nationals. I watched the Mets sign Frank Francisco to a much larger contract. If money is so tight, why go the direction the Mets have?
There’s a reason Lidge came so cheap: He has battled some...

Frank Francisco Hurt by Home Ballparks
The Toronto Blue Jays have some of the best bloggers on the Web and this writer loves checking them out. Writers like Tao of Stieb, Navin Vaswani and others provide priceless entertainment. And after reading them religiously for the past season, when it was announced that the Mets had signed Frank Francisco, the Fan's first reaction was to scoff. After all, "Fat Frankie...

Where is there room on the 40 man
Now that the Mets have made Frank Francisco officially their closer for the next two years, the roster is once again at 40. Not only do they have holes to fill on the active roster but this is the time of year when there are some really nice claims to be made do to other club's roster issues. For example; after the Pads netted four players in the Matos trade they had to expose...

New York Mets Finalize Two-Year Deal with Frank Francisco
Frank Francisco has agreed to a two-year contract worth roughly $12 million with the New York Mets, who clearly think he's worth more than the $4 million he made last season with the Toronto Blue Jays. Silly Mets.
The right-handed reliever went 1-4 with 17 saves and a 3.55 ERA as the Blue Jays closer last season, his seventh in the big leagues. He had one of his better seasons...

Rauch, Francisco hit the Trails
The New York Mets signed both John Rauch and Frank Francisco away from the Blue Jays, for $3.5 million/1 year and $12 million/2 years. Rauch and Francisco were both type B free agents that were offered arbitration, so the Blue Jays will receive two compensatory picks in the second round for losing them.
The Jays will also receive a compensatory pick from losing Bengie Molina...

Dr. Death says Frank Francisco is okay; will start season on DL
The results from Frank Francisco’s meeting with Dr. James Andrews came in just after today’s ball game against the Phillies, and the news are…good! Sort of, anyway, considering that the bad news would have been “yep, you need Tommy John surgery.”
As Brad Evans reported on Twitter earlier today, Dr. Doom/Death/Destruction confirmed the MRI done by the...

The Jays Frank Francisco Signing: Making Sense of the Term
As Jared posted earlier, the Jays signed the newly acquired RP, and potential closer, Frank Francisco to 1-year term worth $4,000,000. The signing is important as it allows both sides to avoid arbitration, allows Alex Anthopolous to concentrate on the lone and most important arbitration eligible player – Jose Bautista, and settles the last question mark about the bullpen in 2011...
