GARY MATTHEWS RUMORS

Phillies considering Gary Matthews, Jr.?

A source tells Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com, that the Philadelphia Phillies could be interested in signing Gary Matthews, Jr. to a minor-league contract. If the two sides can strike a deal, the 36-year old would attend minor-league spring training. Remember when the Anaheim Angels signed him to a five-year, $50 million contract? Yeah, that [...]

Gary Matthews Jr Please Stay

Alright, I did have many, many, many margaritas last night and I am up too early and still drunk but I am going to say it. I don’t want Gary Matthews Jr to leave. Apparently, in the minor league contract that he signed he can opt out of it if the Reds don’t add him to the active roster. He must think that another baseball team is going to put him on their major league...

Cincinnati Reds sign Gary Matthews Jr

The Cincinnati Reds official Twitter page says the team has signed Gary Matthews Jr. to a Minor League deal and sent him to Triple -A Louisville. The Reds are only responsible for the pro-rated portion of the Major League minimum if Matthews gets called up to the big league club this season. Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports first reported the possibility of the signing earlier this week...

Matthews Jr released...

Gary Matthews Jr 5Originally uploaded by Michael G. BaronThe Gary Matthews Jr experiment is finally over, Matthews was going to have to get off to a hot start to negate what was viewed by many fans as an unpopular, if not unnecessary trade.Matthews was given a solid chance, he was the opening day starter in center field and remained in the line-up for the first five days of the season...

Gary Matthews Jr. – When Is Enough, Enough?

This morning, Steve Popper from The Record, shed some light on the shaky status of Mets outfielder Gary Matthews Jr.. He believes it might be a while before GMJ gets another start after an 0-for-4 night on Sunday that extended his struggles to 3-for-33 since opening day, and 3-for-34 after a pinch-hit groundout on Monday. It looks like Jerry Manuel could be growing weary of his...

Reunion for Gary Matthews JR and Senior in Philly.

Adam Rubin over at ESPN New York has a pretty cool reunion/fluff story on Mets bench player Gary Matthews Jr and his dad Sarge, Gary Matthews Sr, who now broadcasts for the Phillies. Senior played 16 years in the Majors and played 3 years with the Phillies from 1981 to 1983. Matthews went to the postseason after the 1981, 1983 and 1984 campaigns and was voted the MVP of the 1983...

The next cut should be GMJ...

Look what exactly does Gary Matthews Jr. bring to the team, think of the five skills. Speed, power, OBP, batting for average, arm strength and I'll throw in outfield range as well. For those who support him we fall back to the classic, he's a baseball player that you want him in your dugout. There are 18 players on the team that should be able to lay down a bunt when called upon to...

FMart not a center fielder ?

Yesterday, Joel Sherman reported that the Mets were shopping Gary Matthews Jr. My initial thought was that I didn't mind trading him, but Matthews and Pagan seem to be very similar players. Pagan has greater range but Matthews is much more matured as a player and wont make the mental errors that drive you nuts.As a younger player with so much potential Pagan should have more value...

Matthews Leading off and rumors...

Gary Matthews Jr. pleasantly surprised me yesterday hitting in the lead-off spot. I'm not as negative about the trade as others but I just didn't see him as a lead-off hitter. However, what Pagan was missing is exactly what Matthews showed; Baseball smarts...Matthews went 2-2 with a walk, three runs and an RBI. More importantly he ended up on 2nd base because he was running the entire...
