HAYDEN PENN RUMORS & GOSSIP

Minors Notes: Hayden Penn, Colton Cain, Jairo Marquez, Pat Irvine

Some minor league notes before today's major league game begins... -Japanese team Chiba Lotte is trying to acquire Hayden Penn from the Pirates.  Patrick Newman of NPB Tracker reported that a deal was close, although Dejan Kovacevic mentioned that there was only an inquiry.  Penn was claimed off of waivers during Spring Training, and was designated for assignment at the start of...

Japanese team Chiba Lotte is close to an agreement with Hayden Penn

According to the Sponichi Annex (via NPB Tracker) Chiba Lotte is close to an agreement with Hayden Penn. Penn, 25, is currently with the Triple-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. A front-office source close to Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says the Japanese team has only inquired about Penn, and there is nothing more at the moment. The right-handed pitcher is...

Pittsburgh Pirates Prospect Watch 5/11/10

INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS (AAA)Indianapolis lost 7-5 in 10 innings against Rochester.  Hayden Penn got the start, and had a decent outing.  Penn pitched six innings, allowing three runs on eight hits, with no walks and six strikeouts.  Steven Jackson allowed one run in two innings of relief work.  Vinnie Chulk pitched a perfect inning in relief to send the game to extra innings.  Jean...

Notes: Hayden Penn, Ramon Vazquez, Indianapolis Indians

A few Saturday afternoon notes as I catch up from the last few days: -Hayden Penn has cleared waivers and has been outrighted to AAA by the Pirates.  However, Penn has until Monday to accept the assignment, or to elect to become a free agent.  The reason for this is because this is the second time Penn has been designated for assignment and outrighted to the minors.  Any player...

Thanks For The Memories, Hayden Penn

With four of the five relieves from 2009 not returning this season, one of GM Neal Huntington’s on-going projects this off-season was the reconstruction of the Pirates bullpen.  It came as no surprise then when the Bucs claimed reliever Hayden Penn from the Florida Marlins just days before the season started. It’s a finely honed technique called throw-enough-things-at-the-wall...

Pirates claim Hayden Penn, DFA Brandon Moss

The Pirates claimed former top prospect and reliever Hayden Penn off waivers today from the Florida Marlins. Penn, 25, was the Baltimore Orioles #2 prospect in 2005 and #3 prospect in 2006. Injuries have since derailed Penn, however he is still a suitable bullpen option, which is where he will be given the opportunity to make the club.Penn is out of options, so in order for the Pirates...

Pirates claim Hayden Penn

According to Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald (via MLBTR), the Pittsburgh Pirates have claimed right handed pitcher Hayden Penn from the Florida Marlins. Click on Penn's name to go to his BUCCO Fans player page. Penn was once a top prospect in the Baltimore Orioles farm system, and rated in Baseball America's top 100 prospects in both 2005 and 2006. He has three plus...

Marlins Trade For Penn

The Marlins traded second baseman Robert Andino to the Orioles for pitcher Hayden Penn. Both Penn and Andino have long term upside, so it will be interesting to see how they adjust to the change. Both players were out minor league options, so it's safe to say that both Penn and Andino will make their respective Opening Day rosters. This story was approved by MLB Rumors.

Hayden Penn Struggles in Season Debut

I didn't see this coming. Hayden Penn made his long awaited season debut against the Athletics on Sunday and gave up 8 runs in 2/3 of an inning. In 14 starts at Triple-A this year, Penn had a 2.27 ERA and 85 K's in 87.2 IP. The 21 year-old still has a ton of long term potential and despite the terrible outing he might still be able to help fantasy owners down the stretch. His...
