Jared Burton signs, avoids arbitration
The Reds signed reliever Jared Burton to a one-year deal, terms undisclosed. They also signed some other guy.
Signing Burton means that the parties avoid arbitration, although I can’t imagine Burton would’ve fared too well in that hearing. He’s been jerked around a bit the last couple years, partly due to injuries, partly due to unknown factors that caused Dusty Baker and Walt...

Arbitration Watch: Reds and Jared Burton Avoid Arbitration With a 1-yr, $750K Deal
The Associated Press reported today that Cincinnati agreed to terms with righty reliever Jared Burton on a one year contract that will pay him $750,000 in 2011.
Though he barely played in the big leagues in 2010, Burton was still eligible for salary arbitration for the second time in his young career. But solid numbers in Louisville do not translate into favorable rulings from...

Burton Avoids Arbitration
The Reds avoided arbitration with Jared Burton and signed him to a one-year deal. The financial terms are not yet available. Burton, 28, was a superb setup man during his first two years in the league but he took a step in the wrong direction last season, finishing with a 4.40 ERA and 1.42 [...]

Reds avoid arbitration with Jared Burton
This seems like good news:
The club and relief pitcher Jared Burton agreed to a one-year, $810,000 contract, avoiding arbitration. Burton was the last remaining arbitration-eligible player. The sides were to exchange figures Tuesday.
“It worked out well,” Reds general manager Walter Jocketty said. “They’re happy. We’re happy. It’s good to get through the arbitration process...

Masset Signed for Two Years
Mark Sheldon reports that the Reds announced today that they signed reliever Nick Masset to a two year contract to avoid arbitration. No terms for the contract are given. Jared Burton is now the lone Reds arbitration case pending.
Hopefully Masset can continue to perform as he did last season and position himself to take over for closer Francisco Cordero should the Reds become...

Jared Burton, Nick Masset file for arbitration
It was a formality, but relievers Nick Masset and Jared Burton have filed for arbitration. The Reds seem optimistic that they’ll get a deal done.
An arbitration hearing can be avoided if the sides agree to a deal, so expect to see some negotiation over the next few weeks. The Reds have avoided every such hearing since 2004 by working out a deal beforehand.

Players A to Z, Jared Burton
Jared Burton pitches in relief for the Cincinnati Reds. Burton’s high strikeout and low home run rates so far have compensated for his high walk rate, as he’s posted a 3.47 ERA over his first three seasons. That’s somewhat below his 3.92 FIP.
Burton allows a low batting average, .238. A big reason [...]
