Lucky Lefties, and Less is More: An Analysis of the Giants Offseason
Ned Flanders is a crafty lefty.
It should surprise no one familiar with this site when I say that we haven’t been blogging much; not counting writing done for other sites, I haven’t written an original article for over seven months. To break my blogging fast, I couldn’t decide if I wanted to recap the offseason, or analyze the contracts to Jeremy Affeldt and Javier...

Hot Stove: Giants Budget Math Looks Bleak
With the signing of Jeremy Affeldt and Javier Lopez the MLB Hot Stove season has officially kicked off for the Giants. With that in mind I think it is a good time to take a look at how much of the Giants budget will be left to spend on Free Agents this off season.
To get an idea I pulled up the Giants from Cot's Contracts and took a look at what MLB Trade Rumors projects for...

Giants Re-Sign Javier Lopez, Exercise Jeremy Affeldt’s Option
The Giants wasted no time making their first set of offseason moves, as they re-signed Javier Lopez and exercised Jeremy Affeldt‘s option for the 2012 season. Lopez’s contract is worth $8.5MM over the next two years, while Affeldt’s option is worth $5MM.
The Lopez deal buys out what would have been his first two free agent years; he’s essentially a LOOGY ...

Javier Lopez’s homerless streak
I don’t know how I’d never discovered this…perhaps someone’s mentioned it before, but I haven’t seen this. Since putting on a Giants uniform, Javier Lopez has not allowed a single home run. That’s in 62.1 innings pitched. He’s now had 83 consecutive homerless appearances as a Giant.
Incidentally, that ranks as the second-longest such streak by a pitcher in Giants history...

Meet your newest G-men, Javier Lopez and Ramon Ramirez
Lopez in 2008 with the Red Sox
Might be cool if I were writing about Adam Dunn or Prince Fielder right now, but the Giants settled for shoring up a sick bullpen instead when Saturday's trade deadline passed -- something they could have done when rosters expand in September, to be honest.
Be that as it may, John Bowker and Joe Martinez are memories and it's time to welcome...

Where are they now- Javier Lopez
Sidewinder lefty Javier Lopez was a 4th round pick by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 1998 and traded to the Colorado Rockies where he played from 2003 to 2005. He pitched for Boston (and Pawtucket) from 2006 to the 2009 season. (At one point in the 2006 season, there were two players with the name Javier Lopez, the other being the former Orioles catcher whom the Red Sox picked...
