Pirates Sign Jeff Clement
All offseason I have been writing about how the Pirates need to sign or trade for a power hitting big league first baseman. Well this morning, the Pirates got one part of that right. They signed the former Pirate Jeff Clement to a minor league deal. Is Clement a power-hitter? No. Is Jeff Clement a big league player? No. If Jeff Clement a first baseman? Technically, yes. He's...

Pirates Sign Jeff Clement, Ryota Igarashi
The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed first baseman Jeff Clement and right handed pitcher Ryota Igarashi to minor league deals, per a team press release. Both players will receive invites to Spring Training.
We heard about Igarashi at the end of last week. The right hander has struggled in his Major League career since coming over from Japan in 2010. Last year he had a 4.66 ERA in 38...

Daily Prospect Profile: Jeff Clement
A year ago today, Jeff Clement made a start for the Pittsburgh Pirates. It was his first start in over two months, after spending a lot of time in AAA. Clement would only make two more starts before being placed on the disabled list with left knee irritation. A later exam found a microfracture in his knee, which required surgery. Over the off-season he was outrighted off...

Too Early To Give Up On Jeff Clement?
Clement has the best AB/HR ratio on the team this year, but power alone won't cut it.
I can't really say that I've ever been a big fan of Jeff Clement. At the start of the 2010 season, many were doubting him as a first baseman for his fielding. I was less concerned with his fielding, and more concerned with his hitting. Prior to being traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates...

Jeff Clement Placed on the DL
Clement
The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed Jeff Clement on the 15-day disabled list with left knee irritation, and have recalled relief pitcher Justin Thomas. The Pirates now have 13 pitchers on the active roster, and only 12 hitters, although there was little need for Clement, outside of being a pinch hitter.
Rosters expand in about a week, so it will be interesting to see if...

Pirates Give Clement Start At First, Other Ramblings
The Pittsburgh Pirates ‘Sunday’ lineup has Jeff Clement at 1B today and Garrett Jones in RF. We saw an interesting stat last night about Lastings Milledge. That was his first error in 156 games? What?
It reminded us of when we got into the Nats locker room last year and took this picture of their bulletin board picking on Milledge.

Supporting the Clement at first decision
Internet went out last night and I thought it was one of my friends pulling an April Fools prank on me. So I went outside and search around the house, checked the cable box and couldn’t find a thing. A few minutes later I heard sirens and, sure enough, somebody had taken out the neighborhood dmarc down the road with a car crash. So much for paying for undergrounding all...

Even When They Improve Themselves, The Mariners Manage To Hurt Themselves
All Bill Bavasi had to do was wait one week. Seven days. 168 Hours. 10,080 Minutes. But Bavasi thinks patience is for the weak. So today, Jeff Clement and Wladimir Balentien were called up and now they will become free agents following the 2013 season as opposed to 2014. Incredible.

Finally! Some insight as to WHY top prospect Jeff Clement is still in AAA. It's amazing that no one caught onto this until now.
