Where are they now? Brian Downing
By Brian Waller - AngelsWin.com Feature Writer
If I were to tell you that the Angels once traded for a scrawny catcher who in his first four seasons in Major League Baseball averaged only 6 HR’s and 34 RBI’s while hitting only .251, you would think the Halos re-acquired Jeff Mathis wouldn’t you? As good of a guess as that would have been, you would have been wrong. The Angel...

Jeff Mathis Becomes A Blue Jay – And That’s (Kinda) Okay
Firstly, I want to apologize for the unintentional rhyme to the headline there.
I honestly didn’t think there’d be a time where I’d be okay with the Blue Jays trading anybody for Jeff Mathis – he who was ranked dead last in WAR among his catching brethren in the MLB – but you know what? I’m okay with the move that sent Brad Mills over to the Angels...

Jays Swap Mills for Mathis
Today’s trade of Brad Mills to the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for back-up catcher Jeff Mathis comes down to one simple question: does Mathis hold greater value than any of the position’s available free agents?
There is little question that Mathis is a solid addition and immediately becomes one of the most reliable and defensively consistent back-ups in the league. The arbitration...

Call it what you want, but Jeff Mathis is now a Blue Jay
The Angels made a huge move this morning, acquiring Houston Astros manager Brad Mills. No, not really, but they did pick up Brad Mills from the Blue Jays.
What did it take to get the lefty with a lifetime ERA of 8.57? It only took a guy with a lifetime batting average of .194. Yes, Angels fans, Jeff Mathis is now a Toronto Blue Jay.

Will Mathis be on the Mets radar...
Long time Angel catcher Jeff Mathis is in jeopardy of losing his job now that the Angels have traded for Chris Iannetta. Mathis is considered a standout defensive catcher and pitcher's love throwing to him, but he's one of the worst offensive players in the game.Mathis has always been an above-average defensive catcher but has been one of baseball's weakest hitters with...

Jeff Mathis In His Own Words
By David Saltzer, AngelsWin.com Senior Writer
When it comes to Jeff Mathis, there are two schools of thought: There are the Major League scouts, coaches, and players who believe that he is one of the better defensive catchers in the game, and there are the fans who believe that his offensive struggles do not justify whatever defense he may bring to the team. No other player on the...
