Cubs decline RHP Samardzija's $3M option
The Chicago Cubs have declined a $3 million option on right-hander Jeff Samardzija for the 2012 season.
Samardzija went 8-4 with a 2.97 ERA in 75 appearances out of the bullpen last season. He is not arbitration eligible.
Samardzija, a former standout wide receiver at Notre Dame, is 12-9 with a 4.40 ERA in 128 games - five starts - in the majors.
