Braves’ Joe Mather clears waivers

The Atlanta Braves do not have to part ways with Joe Mather after he cleared waivers on Tuesday. There was some concern that he may be claimed, but those fears were put to rest. The Atlanta Braves put Joe Mather on waivers after a terrible spring that saw him hit .137 with a .214 OBP and a .176 slugging percentage. He was able to play all three outfield positions, first base and...

Braves: Conrad, Proctor, Mather out of options

Newly anointed Baseball Prospectus author R.J. Anderson put an interesting piece out yesterday on players who are out of options. The Braves have three players on their 40 man roster who are currently out of options: Brooks Conrad, Scott Proctor, and Joe Mather. Joe Mather’s stay in St. Louis is over. The 27-year-old utility man was claimed off waivers by the Atlanta Braves today. Mather was one of the many disappointments on this year’s St. Louis club, batting .217 and driving in just three runs in 64 plate appearances. Mather was highly valued by the Cards going into the season as a versatile bench option and power bat. Tony La Russa...

Cards vs. Marlins Sunday Recap

Cards 7, Marlins 4 Box Score Finally, we get to put a tally in the W column. Joe Mather was the hero filling in for Pujols at first and went 2-3 and drove in 4 runs in Sunday's win over the Marlins. Not to much else to talk about offensively, other than Molina going 2-2. But the real question is, what do we do with Joe Mather? He played first Sunday, but obviously...

Memphis Daily Farm Report 5/11/09

Another great writeup from bgh with all the first hand details you could want. I’ll toss this out to the crowd because I don’t have a good answer but has anyone noticed a note on Joe Mather.  He’s been conspicuously absent and, to my knowledge, isn’t injured.  Maybe he’s battling a flu bug but if anyone [...]
