Arizona Spending Like A Mid-Market Team
The Arizona Diamondbacks may have the highest team payroll since 2003 after additions of Jason Kubel and Joe Saunders. Fitting, since most deferred player salaries from that era in Diamondbacks history will finally come off the books at the end of 2012.

PHOENIX The Diamondbacks are all in.
The D-backs proposed 2012 budget was a major casualty in the defense of their NL West title.
The D-backs overspent the budget by more than 10 million by signing free agents Jason Kubel and Joe Saunders this winter, the final additions to a group that was 94-68 and won the division by eight games in 2011.

Joe Saunders stays with D-backs for $6 million
Cut loose by Arizona last month, former All-Star pitcher Joe Saunders has agreed to a $6 million, one-year contract with the Diamondbacks.
Saunders made $5.5 million last season, when he went 12-13 with a 3.69 ERA in a career-high 33 starts. Arizona didn't want him to become eligible for arbitration, so the Diamondbacks declined to offer a contract by the Dec. 12 deadline.
