Can Jose Tabata Develop More Power?
"Jose Tabata has a big league bat capable of Manny Ramirez type numbers."That's a quote from a scouting report on Tabata from 2007. Coming up, nobody really knew what to make of Tabata's power potential, but most scouts realized that it was certainly there. Now he's played 193 big league games and has just eight home runs. A career .284/.348/.383 triple-slash...

The Pirates Can’t Trade Jose Tabata
I’ve always believed that the best approach for small market teams is to build a farm system that constantly provides replacements for the players in the majors. When a star player is ready to leave, the system will ideally have a guy ready to take over and provide the same production. The system will also allow the team to trade guys away as they get in to their expensive...

Jose Tabata extension potentially huge value for Pirates
Thanks to this deal, Tabata could be a Pirate until 2019.
Yesterday when word first broke out that the Pirates were close to a deal that would extend OF Jose Tabata through his team control years, I felt a little skeptical.
Jose Tabata had a very good rookie season for the Pirates as he posted a 2.1 WAR over 102 games at the age of 21. This season, he has taken a little step back...

Tabata Extension Is Low Risk, High Reward
Jose Tabata's extension is a great low risk, high reward move for the Pirates.
My initial reaction to the Jose Tabata extension was surprise at how good of a deal it was for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The main part of the surprise came with the three option years that were included in the deal. In total, that gave the Pirates control of Tabata for up to eight years beyond the...

Josh Harrison, who was just optioned before the Boston series will rejoin the club. MLB rules state that...

Game 8 Recap: Tabata’s 14th Inning Double Wins it
It took more than a little while, but in the end I'm smiling. Jose Tabata knocked in Josh Rodriguez with two outs in the 14th inning to move the Pirates to 5-3. If you are keeping track, the club needs 77 wins for a season above .500. Rodriguez had walked with two outs off Franklin [...]
