KEVIN CORREIA RUMORS

Who Should The Pirates Opening Day Starter Be?

It's incredibly early to write this post, but I kind of just wanted to beat everyone else to the punch. The Pittsburgh Pirates open up their 2012 season on April 5th at home against the Philadelphia Phillies. That means Roy Halladay. So who will the Pirates roll out against him? There are six options, sort of. In ALPHABETICAL order (for the sake of SUSPENSE), the options are...

Kevin Correia vs. Brad Lincoln

Assuming the Pirates don't make another starting pitcher acquisition before the season starts, it looks like the rotation will look like this:Erik BedardJames McDonaldCharlie MortonJeff KarstensKevin Correia / Brad LincolnNow Morton may miss a start or two, so he will actually be penciled in as the fifth starter at the beginning of the season, and both Correia and Lincoln...

Correia hopes to lead staff again

Pirates' right-hander Kevin Correia was the best starter in the first half of the season in 2011 and made the All-Star team but struggled after the break before getting hurt. Correia is hoping to bounce back strong after going on the disabled list in August. Correia finished the season with a 12-11 mark and a 4.79 ERA. PiratesDugout.com's George Von Benko spoke with Correia recently.

Kevin Correia to the DL, Chris Leroux Recalled

The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed right handed pitcher Kevin Correia on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left oblique.  The move is retroactive to August 20th.  As a corresponding move, they have activated recalled right handed pitcher Chris Leroux from his rehab assignment in Indianapolis.  Leroux is at PNC Park and will be active for both games of tonight’s double header.

Kevin Correia to Replace Hamels in All-Star Game

Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Kevin Correia (11-6, 3.74) will be going to the MLB All-Star after all. Correia was initially left off the NL roster, but will now replace Philadelphia Phillies starter Cole Hamels. Hamels – along with Giants pitcher Matt Cain – is scheduled to start the Sunday before the All-Star game. Since Hamels was chosen to the game via the players...

The Electric Meter: Righties and lefties

In yesterday's Electric Meter, I set out to find the root of Charlie Morton's struggles over the last month. As it turned out, though, there wasn't much to see. Morton's pitches look the same, his peripherals look better, and the only thing that's different over the last month is the opponent's batting average on balls in play, which is something that's generally hard for a pitcher...

Game 78: Pirates 7 Blue Jays 6

The Pirates dodged a bullet here, almost literally. They ran out to an early lead with Alex Presley's first Major League homer (a great, quick, easy swing through a bad pitch that Jo-Jo Reyes left up in the zone) and then piled on four more runs in the fourth after the Blue Jays outfield turned a Matt Diaz single into a triple. It's hard not to feel good about a 6-1 lead...

Alex Presley helps lead Pirates to victory in Toronto

Presley's HR in the 3rd was the 1st of his career. Final: Pirates 7, Blue Jays 6 WP: Kevin Correia (10-6) LP: Jo-Jo Reyes (3-7) SV: Joel Hanrahan (23) Alex Presley sure knows how to get on Pirates’ fans good side. He opened up the scoring in the 3rd inning with a 2-run homer to give the Bucs a 2-0 lead. They would stay ahead the remainder of the game. Kevin Correia picked up his...

Game 49 Recap: Correia Wins Seventh

Some things continued in this game. Kevin Correia continued to pitch well. The Pirates continued to have success on the road. The offense continued to struggle. Correia chucked it for 7-1/3 innings and gave up no runs. The Pirates picked up their 14th road win on the year. The offense managed just seven hits, but [...]

Pirates Blast Cubs Behind Kevin Correia’s Gem

Starting pitcher Kevin Correia continues to be, far and away, the Pirates’ best offseason signing. He leads all of Major League Baseball in wins (7) and is second in the team’s rotation in ERA (3.44).  The 30-year-old has allowed two or less earned runs in seven of his ten starts with the Pirates, and opponents carry just a .262 average against him. Correia threw 7...
