Incompetence of Gorzelanny trade shines as Hart goes on DL

I’m traveling and will only be able to catch the first few innings of the game before my flight so let’s talk about a few hanging chads instead. You’ve heard the talk circling around the media that the Nuttings might be selling, and if you ask anyone around the game right now why Neal Huntington hasn’t been extended, you are likely to hear that they believe...

Kevin Hart has torn labrum

This is not good.Kevin Hart, who had started to figure things out in Indianapolis, has been diagnosed with a torn labrum in his right shoulder. This is pretty much the worst thing that can happen to a pitcher as things like this are injuries that ruin/end careers.Hart will go see Dr. James Andrews next week for a second opinion, but it looks like he is heading towards surgery.

Pirates Notebook: How long until we see Kevin Hart?

Earlier today it looked like Kevin Hart would be the starting pitcher tomorrow for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Instead, Hart made his regularly scheduled start for Indianapolis, leaving Chris Jakubauskas as the starter tomorrow. In that start, Hart was excellent, with one run allowed on five hits in five innings, along with a walk and five strikeouts. This was against the same Louisville...

Kevin Hart the starter for Saturday

According to Dejan Kovacevic, Kevin Hart will be the Pittsburgh Pirates' starter on Saturday against the Houston Astros. DK mentions that Chris Jakubauskas will be called up tonight to help out the bullpen, which we heard as a possibility from Jennifer Langosch yesterday. This means that Indianapolis will have to look for a new starter tonight, as Hart was scheduled to make...

Kevin Hart among 8 cut

Kevin Hart was sent to AAA this morning along with seven others. Hart was lined up to be the Pirates' 5th starter but did just about everything he could to lose the job. I would assume now that Dan McCutchen will now break camp with the team as Hart works on his control and mechanics at Indianapolis.Neil Walker and Chris Jakubauskas were also both optioned to AAA-Indianapolis...

Kevin Hart continues to struggle

Alright, I was willing to give Hart the benefit of the doubt, but it is getting a bit ridiculous. Kevin Hart started today in a game against the Philadelphia Phillies' single-A players. His stat line: 3.1 IP, 2 R, 4 H, 2 K, 4 BB.I think it is now at the point where the Pirates really need to send Hart to AAA to begin the year. If there was anything a player could do to lose a...

Kevin Hart is still strugggggling

Kevin Hart walked four in 3 1/3 innings today against the Phillies Class-A affiliate. That's technically an improvement over what he did against the Tigers in Bradenton when I was there last week, but not by much. He's got an option left and it looks increasingly like the Pirates will be using it. Below: a video that Hart's performance last week vaguely reminded me of...

A Nightmare on Ninth Street for Hart

Pittsburgh Pirate fifth starter candidate Kevin Hart  pitched one inning today against the Phillies. It wasn’t the vision pitching coach Joe Kerrigan had going in to the game.  Hart was going to pitch two innings or 45 pitches, whatever came first.  What came first was neither.  For us, the word nightmare immediately came to mind. Kerrigan knows all about [...]

Spring Training - Day 2 notes

The big news from the 2nd day of workouts today was a quote from John Russell about the fifth starter job. It looks like Kevin Hart will begin the spring with a leg up on Dan McCutchen. Here's what JR had to say on Hart:“There’s competition and (Hart) knows it. He’s going to do everything he can to make sure he makes a good impression and shows he’s ready for it. Weâ...
