KYLE BLANKS RUMORS & GOSSIP

Free Kyle Blanks?

In 2009, at the precocious age of 22, Kyle Blanks stormed into the Show and promptly swatted 10 big flies, and his .372 wOBA — in a limited sample — was third-best on the Padres. In other words, he had arrived, and the Friars happily installed him as their cleanup hitter for the 2010 campaign. But after a slow start, Blanks was felled by Tommy John surgery, and has seemingly...

Padres 1B Blanks suffers quad strain

San Diego Padres first baseman Kyle Blanks left Tuesday's game against the Colorado Rockies with a slightly strained right quadriceps. Blanks did not emerge from the dugout to begin the bottom of the first. He reached in the top half on a fielder's choice. Anthony Rizzo came on to replace Blanks, who is listed as day-to-day. Blanks is hitting .230 with seven homers and...

Kyle Blanks Up, Rizzo Down

In a surprising move, the Padres via twitter announced that Kyle Blanks was being promoted and Anthony Rizzo demoted. Since his call up Rizzo hit .143/.282./265 at the major league level after he put up monster numbers in Tucson (.365/.444/.715). Blanks not so long ago was the Padres 2010 opening day starting left fielder and was thought to be the first baseman in waiting. ...

Tucson Padres Player Profile with Kyle Blanks

San Diego Padres fans may recall a 23-year-old prospect by the name of Kyle Blanks. Blanks burst on to the major league scene in 2009 and batted .250 with 22 runs batted in and 10 homeruns in 54 games with the San Diego Padres. Then Blanks suffered a setback as an injury shortened his 2010 season to 44 professional games. Blanks underwent a reconstructive elbow surgery in 2010...

Hallelujah, Blanks is Facing a Righty!

Just thought I’d share my jubilation that, for one game at least, the Padres made the sensible decision and are starting Kyle Blanks in left field against righthander Chad Billingsley. I’m really hoping Blanks has a huge game and puts this idiotic platoon idea to bed once and for all. He struggled, not surprisingly, against lefty Clayton Kershaw yesterday.

This is Not How You Handle Kyle Blanks

We can all agree on two things regarding Padres outfielder Kyle Blanks: 1.) He’s an important cog in the future machine for San Diego, and a potential middle-of-the-order bat, and 2.) He’s off to a bad start, especially regarding strikeouts. Given Blanks’ potential (he was ranked San Diego’s best prospect entering last year, and hit .250/.355/.514 with the...

Blanks to the Minors?

The Padres are losing patience with Kyle Blanks and his 44.8% strikeout rate. Blanks is batting just .184/.297/.379, and it’s not like he’s a plus defender in the outfield. After some early-season plate discipline issues, Blanks has gotten his strike zone back under control of late, but still, a whopping 36.5% of his swings have come up empty. There’s one player...

Hacktastic Kyle Blanks

Kyle Blanks doesn’t make contact very often. Last season, only 67.2 percent of Blanks’ mighty hacks made contact with the baseball. The league average was about 80%. In particular, Blanks couldn’t touch pitches outside of the zone, making contact on only 38.6 percent of swings there. The league as a whole made contact on over 60 percent [...]

Kyle Blanks Needs To Re-Grow His Afro

There’s not a whole lot to dislike about Kyle Blanks. The 23-year-old San Diego Padre is a 6′6, 270-pound outfielder who is incredibly likable, has light-tower power and actually runs well (three stolen bases and three triples this spring, and an inside-the-park home run last year). The only thing keeping him from being a household name is the lack of something quirky...

Friday Links (19 Feb 10)

Links? Sure, go nuts: Padres’ Blanks leaner, keener (U-T). Tim Sullivan talks about Kyle Blanks, who has dropped a lot of weight since the end of last season: “He remembers the early days of that diet as ‘miserable’, but the results were swift and gratifying.” As someone who has lost 20 pounds since October thanks to [...]
