The Houston Astros added potential depth to their rotation with the recent signing of veteran right-handed pitcher Livan Hernandez. Hernandez has logged at least 175 innings in each of the last 14 seasons, and he'll be looking to spend a 17th year in the majors.

The Houston Astros have agreed to a minor league contract with former World Series MVP Livan Hernandez. The 36-year-old pitcher was invited to major league spring training. Hernandez was the opening day starter for Washington last season and started 29 games for the Nationals, going 8-13 with a 4.47 ERA.

Livan Hernandez: Is Tricking The Umpire A Skill?
In 2010, at the age of 35, Livan Hernandez had the third best ERA of his career, good for sixteenth in the NL. He was also the most valuable Nationals pitcher.
His success continued in 2011, albeit diminished. His ERA was 4.47. Compared to 2008 and 2009, when his ERA was 6.05 and 5.44 respectively, 4.47 seems quite excellent.
