Players A to Z, Luke Hochevar
Luke Hochevar pitches as a starter for the Kansas City Royals. A first round pick in 2006, Luke made it to the majors at seasonal age 23 in 2007. Since then, he consistently posted ERAs much higher than his FIP or xFIP, measures of fielding independent pitching. For his career, his ERA stands at 5.29, his FIP at 4.41, and his xFIP at 4.27. Given his high ground ball rates, it...

The Kansas City Royals Have a Darkhorse 2012 Cy Young Candidate
I exaggerated a little bit. The Kansas City Royals don’t have a Cy Young candidate – darkhorse, front-runner or otherwise. However, would you have read about the Kansas City Royals’ budding ace if I said something like “Kansas City Royals Have a Solid Starting Pitcher for 2012″? Of course not. Anyway, after being drafted No. 1 overall in 2006 and struggling to a...

Royals RHP Hochevar shut down for season
Kansas City Royals right-hander Luke Hochevar has been shut down for the remainder of the season because of a heavy workload.
Hochevar, who has pitched a career-high 198 innings, will finish the season 11-11 with a 4.88 ERA.
Royals manager Ned Yost said Hochevar would not pitch again for his "protection and health."
Left-hander Jeff Francis is also expected to make his...

Hochevar is 3rd Royals starter shut down
Luke Hochevar has made his final start of the season, the third Kansas City Royals starter to be shut down in September.
Manager Ned Yost said Thursday that Hochevar - who has thrown a career-high 198 innings, 90 more than last season when he missed 2 1/2 months with an elbow injury - would not pitch again this year for ''his protection and his health.''

Tribe bats go silent against Hochevar
Remember that lead-in from yesterday’s article when I said that the Indians had good success against Royals starter Luke Hochevar in two games this season? Well, he bucked that trend as the Royal righty dominated the Tribe offense for 8 innings, allowing just 3 hits and 1 walk as the Royals took the second game of the series 5-1 at Kauffman Stadium. Tribe lefty David Huff didn...

Luke Hochevar Wins 'Royal Disappointment' Player of Game Award
The Red Sox may have ended this homestand on a down note, but there's still a lot to be positive about for the team. The Red Sox had won their last six series before splitting a four-game set with the Kansas City Royals with a 4-3 loss on Thursday, and NESN Nation's Krister Johnson is choosing to look on the bright side of it. If the worst thing to happen to you is that you split...

Scouting Report: Luke Hochevar
Luke Hochevar pitching Independent ball for the Ft. Worth Cats in 2006
Hochevar has the distinction of being drafted in the 1st round two times, including 1st overall in 2006. However, his stuff doesn’t look dominant and I suspect he has already lost some velocity since his college days.
He’ll vary the fastball between his straight 4-seamer and his running 2-seamer....

Royals Take 2 of 3 In Detroit- Are Fans Starting To Believe?
Kansas City ace Luke Hochevar notched his first win of 2011 in the team’s 9-5 beatdown of the rival Tigers on Sunday afternoon.
A pair of Wilson Betemit doubles led the way offensively and Detroit starter Rick Porcello struggled to ever really find any sort of rhythm in combatting the K.C. line-up.
The Royals have yet to lose a series and now improve to a 6-3 record and have...

Royals Avoid Arbitration With Luke Hochevar
Luke Hochevar is the early frontrunner for the opening day start in 2011. With Zack Greinke gone and nobody else really close, the former first overall pick looks pretty secure as the de facto ace of the rotation.
The Royals and Hochevar agreed to a $1.76 million deal for 2011 that avoids a salary arbitration hearing.
Hochevar has a career 19-32 record with a 5.60 ERA as a major...
