Could Manny Acosta be Mets’ 2012 closer?
Shudder to just think of it a couple of months ago. After a horrible start, Manny Acosta has been lights out lately. Which begs the question: Can Acosta assume the role of closer for the 2012 Mets?
It goes without saying that Acosta has thoroughly been the Mets most consistent and reliable arm out of the bullpen for the better part of two months. In his last 29 outings (consisting...

Mets Notes: Acosta’s LI, Wright’s K% & Niese’s QS
Since the All-Star break, Manny Acosta has been the Mets’ best reliever. Tim Byrdak has a better ERA (1.80 versus 2.19) but Acosta has faced more than twice as many batters (48-22) and has given up three runs overall to Byrdak’s four. No other reliever is close to their ERA.
Acosta’s effective stretch goes back further than the break. In his last 16 games, he has 17 IP...

Jason Bay & Carlos Beltran had grand slams in consecutive innings, and R.A. Dickey had another quality outing in the 14-3 blowout of the Detroit Tigers
Game Notes
R.A. Dickey came out today and seems had the luck on his side and was blessed with run support. Outside of that, R.A. went seven innings, allowing three runs on ten hits, including two home runs while walking three...

Since floating the idea that Bobby Parnell could be sent down to the minors to start the season yesterday, we have a little more clarity based on some new information.

Manny Acosta heads back to Buffalo-Igarashi is ready
Manager Jerry still has his pull with the Mets. Instead of sending Mr Mejia down to Buffalo to make room for DL returnee Ryota Igarashi, the Mets optioned Manny Acosta.Of course most would have preferred to send down Oliver Perez but he is would have to agree to it.Mejia needs to go down soon so he can maybe ramp up to become a starter later this year but Manager Jerry loves the...

Acosta called up & debuts
Went to the game last night, straight from work, didn't get home til 2am and then went to work at 6am. After a power nap, watching the game and catching up the blog.As I expected Iggy was placed on the disabled list and one of my candidates to replace him was called up in Manny Acosta. I've got to say Acosta looked very good in person in his first inning of work. Hard throwing...
