In the midst of announcing the latest cuts from the Spring Training roster on Tuesday, the Cubs outrighted Richie Robnett to Triple-A Iowa.
With the procedural move, Robnett was removed from the Cubs' 40-man roster and created a valuable vacancy on their Major League roster. With the move, the Cubs' 40-man roster stands at 38 players.

Cubs Sign German, Send Five to Minor League Camp
Apparently unhappy with what they've seen so far from Luis Rivas, the Cubs have signed 30-year old super-sub IF-OF Esteban German to a minor league contract, with an NRI to Spring Training. German was released by the Kansas City Royals last Friday.
In 388 MLB games (with OAK, TEX, and mostly KC), German has played 2B-3B-SS-LF-CF, and even has gone behind the plate on ocacasion...

Introducing Wiklifield - the Cubs Online Encyclopedia
In case Cubs history isn't your thing, there's a prospect post below this as well for today.
I've hinted at it enough over the last few months, but I suppose I'm ready to now to unleash it upon the world. Wiklifield (thanks to Cubnut for the name) has been my main project and passion this offseason and the goal is simple, if not ambitious - a community project...

Jim Hendry Understands Basic Economics
In perusing the interwebs (or as I like to call it, ?The Gore Zone?) the last two days, I have seen some fairly ridiculous comments made concerning Hendry?s most recent two trades. That is, Rich Hill for a PTBNL was the first move, and Michael Wuertz for two Oakland prospects was the second. In general, these moves are being criticized as ?salary dumps.?
The problem is defining...

As the Cubs continue to be the most active team this off-season, they have traded one of Lou’s perpetual doghouse tenants in Michael Wuertz to Oakland for minor leaguers Richie Robnett and Justin Sellers.

Well, It Could Have Been Wuertz
Time to retire the "worst-Wuertz" puns as Jim Hendry moves another player without any options for 2009. As we heard yesterday, the Cubs do end up dealing Michael Wuertz to the Athletics for outfielder Richie Robnett and infielder Justin Sellers. Scouting reports and pertinent info on the newbies after the jump...
Richie Robnett was the Athletics first round draft...

Cubs Stay Busy, Deal Wuertz to A’s
According to MLBTR, via a Cubs press release, the Cubs have dealt Michael Wuertz to the A’s for minor leaguers Richie Robnett and Justin Sellers. Robnett is a big-time raw power prospect by reputation, if nothing else. Sellers is billed a guy who might make a living with his glove. Honestly I’m a bit puzzled by this move. More to come as we find out details.
