The Phillies Ace Effect
PHOTO APRoy Halladay is on the mound. Everyone in attendance at Citizens Bank Park knows he is on today–that his stuff is good stuff today. The first three batters of the game look like they’ve never swung a baseball bat in their life as they flailed in vain at the perfectly placed pitches by Halladay. The next eight innings play out in similar fashion, with maybe a...

Philadelphia Phillies Storyline: Pitching Puzzle
How do the 2012 Philadelphia Phillies and Roy Halladay measure up to the ace-laden trios in baseball history? Up until now, this span-of-time issue has stymied everybody, but–unlike Joe Lewis versus Muhammad Ali–baseball statistics are plus-and-minus flexible. With a compensating system, you can minimize the differences from the dead-ball era to the current day, including...

Roy Halladay: Where Does the Philadelphia Phillies Ace Fit Into the Team’s Plans for the Future?
Trading for Roy Halladay before the 2010 season was a fantastic move for Philadelphia Phillies GM Ruben Amaro, Jr., regardless of the prospects the team had to give up. Halladay is as sure of a thing as there is in baseball, and he has rewarded the Phillies so far with two phenomenal seasons.
Since joining the Phillies, Halladay is 40-16 with a 2.40 ERA and an unbelievable 6.75 strikeout...

Top Moment #7: Halladay’s Shutout Clinches Playoffs
146 games: that’s all it took for the Phillies to advance to the postseason. The 2011 Phillies became the fastest team in franchise history to clinch a postseason spot. The 1915 Phillies, who lost to the Boston Red Sox in the World Series, clinched the playoffs in 147 games.Advancing to the playoffs for the fifth consecutive year was a special moment, but the game in which...

Looking Back At That Halladay Trade
Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, posted his regular mailbag feature this week and I found this Q&A pretty interesting:
I don’t want to be “that guy,” but am I the only fan ruing the day that the Mets did not pull the trigger on trading for Roy Halladay? There’s no doubt that Halladay is one of the top pitchers in the league. There’s just as little doubt...

Report: Phillies ace Halladay saves boy from anaconda
Roy Halladay generally concerns himself with wins.
During a recent fishing trip to the Amazon, however, the Philadelphia Phillies ace righthander reportedly picked up one impressive save.
According to a blog from Skeet Reese, Halladay and St. Louis Cardinals hurler Chris Carpenter joined the professional fisherman and others in Brazil in search of a good time.
"Me and Doc...

On Amazon fishing trip, Phillies' ace helps boy after anaconda attack
Wait. What? Like an enthralling tale of Man vs. Nature ripped right out of an issue of National Geographic (or as story out of Reader’s Digest if that’s your thing) and arguably one of the strangest stories that will likely emerge during the MLB offseason (R.A. Dickey’s upcoming climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro notwithstanding), Philadelphia Phillies [...]

SNAKE CHARMER
Halladay's amazing Amazon adventure
There's seemingly nothing that the Phillies' ace can not do, including even saving a young boy from an anaconda while on a hunting trip in the Amazon.

Roy Halladay Could Care Less It's Winter, Continues To Long Toss Around Ice Rink Preparation
So what that it is below 40 degrees in Philly? Roy Halladay does not care.
This photo, courtesy of managing editor of NHL.com Adam Kimelman, is just another example of the kind of work ethic Halladay has.
Doc continued to play some long toss today regardless of the Winter Classic preparations going on around him.
There is a reason he is the best in the business.
