Nats should be worried about Sean Burnett’s recent struggles
After the Washington Nationals lost another game in the late innings yesterday, reliever Sean Burnett told reporters “I’m just not executing when I need to.” That’s called a major understatement. He has hit an elongated rough patch after such a strong start to the year. Burnett was so reliable for the Nats in the final three innings at the beginning of 2011, but his struggles...

Clipp, Burn, and Cry
(Sean Burnett turned a 3-2 game into a 6-3 disaster in the 9th. Screen grab via TV/MASN.)
Nightmare!
Mets 6, Nationals 3: Clippard blows a lead in the 8th; Burnett blows the game in the 9th.
All the breaks kept going the Nats' way until the 9th. And then Jim Riggleman forgot about Drew Storen, and Sean...

Players A to Z, Sean Burnett
Sean Burnett pitches in relief for the Washington Nationals. He split time with the Pirates and Nationals in 2009, his best season in terms of ERA. After posting a walk rate of 5.4 BB per Nine IP in 2008, Burnett followed that up with 4.4 BB per nine IP in 2009. What [...]

Sean Burnett: Washington’s True Phenom
We’ve all joked about the faults and futility of the Pittsburgh Pirates over the years but, when credit is due, we must award it to those who are deserving.
As you can see in the graphic below, Pittsburgh’s advanced scouting and high-tech futuristic genetic testing are second only to China’s Olympic gymnastics program, and is well ahead of that of any other team in professional...

Jordan Zimmerman's Elbow and the Future Rotation
(by Jeff Bergin) Yesterday, Jordan Zimmermann had Tommy John surgery, and according to players like Sean Burnett, JZ should come back stronger and ready to roll at about a year, barring any other setbacks. The reason that JZ's surgery and more importantly, his recovery is a big deal, is that with JZ coming back and Strasburg now officially within the Nationals control for 6 years...
