JERUSALEM -- Three Jewish former major leaguers have joined Israel's bid for the 2013 World Baseball Classic, a move that could transform the baseball backwater into a legitimate contender.Shawn Green, Brad Ausmus and Gabe Kapler met this week in Los Angeles with Israeli baseball officials and committed to helping Israel field a competitive team in next year's WBC qualifying round...

"The Way Of Baseball: Finding Stillness At 95 MPH"
I just completed reading "The Way Of Baseball: Finding Stillness At 95 MPH" by Shawn Green, the former All-star outfielder who recently penned this tome about his life in baseball.I never would have figured Green for writing a book about his time in baseball, but I found it an interesting read. He comes across as a very intelligent and thoughtful man who cared about the...

Book Review: The Way of Baseball: Finding Stillness at 95 MPH, by Shawn Green with Gordon McAlpine
While Shawn Green never played for the Red Sox (he was a member of the Blue Jays, Dodgers, Diamondback and the Mets), when I was contacted about the possibility of reading his book The Way of Baseball: Finding Stillness at 95 MPH, I was very interested.
We all know that a large contingent of sports figures are religious, and to varying degrees, demonstrate that fact. We have all...

Book review: "The Way Of Baseball" (Shawn Green)
I have to admit I was a little apprehensive when the folks at Simon & Schuster contacted me to have me review Shawn Green's new book The Way Of Baseball: Finding Stillness At 95 MPH. After all, even though he came up with the Toronto Blue Jays (where he played for seven seasons), Green will always be a Los Angeles Dodger to me.
And you know how I feel about that.
But...

Odds & Ends: Lee, Blue Jays, Mets, Hampton
Here are the rest of the day's links on the 11th anniversary of the Shawn Green-Raul Mondesi trade...
Darek Braunecker, the agent for Cliff Lee, told the AP (on CBS Sports) that his client is “clearly the best player on the free-agent market.” Hard to argue with that one.
If the A's reach a deal with Japanese righty Hisashi Iwakuma, they'll have a surplus...

I Do Not Want To See Joe Torre's Man Boobs
Most of you have probably already seen this commercial, but hopefully it didn't traumatize you, like it did me. Yeah, I get the commercial, it's a cute idea. Still, if I ever made a list of things I never ever wanted to see, Joe Torre's man chesticles would be right at the top. It would be an extremely close race between that and Shawn Green circumcision pictures.

The Good, the Bald, And the Ugly
Bald is beautiful, according to the Mets...though Shawn Green looks like a milk jug with those dumbo ears. Even vets like Tom Glavine got in on the fun. Kinda reminds me of when the Sox cowboy-up-ed in '03.
