U.S.A!

I know as a flag-loving American and blogger that it's my duty to be critical of just about everything, especially something new and different. But I just can't find the energy or a good reason to hate on the World Baseball Classic. The set-up certainly is not ideal, the biggest problems being the inability to get all the top talent and the schedule, but I'm not sure...

CUBS BUILDING OUTFIELD ARMY

By the time the 2009 All-Star break arrives, So Taguchi will be 40 years old. Will he still be with the Cubs? Jim Hendry signed the former Cardinal to a minor league deal with an invite to spring Taguchi was used mainly as a pinch-hitter in Philly last year and had a rough year. ...

The offseason begins for the Champs: Coach fired, 2 players move on

The Phillies didn't wait long to begin preparing themselves for the 2009 season. Starting with the hiring of a new GM, they have made a flurry of moves as they begin the long process of fielding a team that will look to defend their World Series Title. Video: Trisha Takanawa Grills Uncle Charlie

One thing left me scratching my head last night. I couldn't determine which was more bizarre: The fact that this question was asked, or the answer which Charlie Manuel gave. Let's just say it involves So Taguchi, Billy Martin, Tony Oliva and Rod Carew.

Midday thread: 'Twas a season of low batting averages

While playoff teams like the Phils play on, they leave behind the residue of regular season statistics. In many cases, it isn't pretty, particularly in the batting average category, where the team finished .255, eighth lowest in baseball. In talking with Beerleaguer's senior correspondent, one of his favorite moments from Sunday's B-game was watching So Taguchi, making...

Beerleaguer guest opinion: 'Myers has totally lost it'

Senior correspondent Martin Smith, the only fan who stayed the course with So Taguchi, provides his take on the struggling right-hander. "I think Myers has totally lost it. With control like last night, he can't even be a reliever. He was 1-3 in the minors, which means he didn't beat minor leaguers. Big deal he had some strikeouts. So did Les Walrond. And if it was about...

So Shocking! Phils Triumph Over Mets

Wow, did that just really happen? Johan Santana was awesome for 8 innings, but the Mets bullpen was horrendous for 1 awful inning...I'm cool with that. Yep, the Phils held on to 1st place in the NL East with an M-azing comeback over the Mets last night. Of all players to make things happen, it was So Taguchi that got the big hit and that is So Shocking! For the full article about...
